I haven't tried it in a while, but I just tried pinpointing my location on my iPod Touch expecting it to not work, but sure enough the map zoomed in right onto my house!!! It didn't work with wireless switched off. I wonder if it used local wireless networks or that big company's one that they originally used for this feature in the states?

Actually, the pin puts me on the road just outside my neighbour's house... still within 50 metres!

Duh... of course you need a wireless connection for it to work or else you couldn't see the maps. Kind of a redundant feature - you can only use it where you have a wireless connection... and presumably if you had one you'd know where you were!

probably works the same way google mobile maps does with showing your location without a gps.

sweet, I still don't have Maps though - I'm holding out until the big update for all the new features - I reckon they're going to (have to) give us all those first updates for free as part of the firmware updates - even if we have to pay for the 2nd thing separately, I reckon that first lot will have to be included.
I've started using my ipaq a lot more and man, it f***ing smokes the s*** out of the ipod touch - and it's almost 4 years old. With the exception of the built-in web browser its so far superior to it it's not even funny. |
