I need a program that tests the life of laptop batteries. I have used battery monitor is the past, but that doesn't put a load on the battery. Do you guys know of/use a specific program that does the job well? ie simulating moderate/heavy usage of a laptop whilst keeping track of how quickly the battery discharges? Basically I want the test to be exactly repeatable on a few different batteries.

TIA

yeah I feel your pain.. no software utility really does it well that I've tried. maybe the boys down at Batteryworld have a poeice of kit that does the job well.

for myself, I'll play a 720p or greater video via the wireless with the Windows Battery monitor up. it's not ideal, but it does give me the opportunity to catch up on Lost

For heavy usage, depending on your hardware:

* Intel Thermal Analysis Tool: start a 100% workload on both cores (Link)
* ATI Tool: Run an artefact test (Link, works on NVIDIA cards too)

Basically that will get your laptop running seriously flat out.

Keep in mind the battery indicators aren't perfect, and they become less accurate the older the batteries are .. since they naturally lose capacity over time. For example, on my 9 month old laptop, the battery indicator starts at 100%, then with a bit of load drops by 10% instantly.

We used an app called Battery Eater.

Works pretty well and gave us consistant results.
