He is not only (probably) the most famous chess-playing human ever, but he IS intensely "political" and very active in the Russian political scene. I spose not many people keep up with Russian politics so its not really surprising if you haven't heard of him, but he's a f***in' big man in chessland.

I can't be bothered watching a video of some reject throwing a rubber cock at him or whatever it is, but its safe to assume if someone's doing something like that, Kasparov was about to do, or had just finished doing, something critical of the current government. He is a loud critic of the current Russian president, by all reports often to his own detriment.

Wired has some more details including some (alleged) translations of comments made in the video which certainly imply he was doing something political.
