As per their 'great summer giveaway' promotion, i now have my shiny new Wii to play with. Wii sports is good for a laugh, and i would suppose a good way to learn the unique way the wii controller works.

So whats next for me, mod chip? extra controllers? good games?

personally there isnt enough good games to mod chip, whilst it sucks australia gets the short end of the stick as far as when games get released it should be fesiable and within anyones budget to buy block buster games when they do finally get released.

so far the only games worthy of my attention are mario kart, mario, ssbm and zelda

boom blox is a maybe, but ill wait till a few friends get it first and tell me there throughts.

get mario karts immediately

metroid was also a worthwhile gaming experience to add to groganus's suggestions above

Stay away from the Mod chip for the time being, rumour has it that the next Wii patch disables the mod-chips capabilities. Get a second controller. Metroid Prime is a good game and also Super Smash Bro Brawls when it comes (a good reason to get at least a 2nd controller). Super Mario Galaxy if you like that sort of thing is excellent.

oh also i couldnt recomend enough getting a controller charger stand for your wii-remotes.

mine cost $30 and now i never have to worry about my battrys being flat when i go to play a game.

also keeps s*** tidy.

Man... lately I'm really disappointed with my Wii. Went for about a year without playing it, then thought "hang on it's really fun", so I bought some games, like Mario Galaxy and Resident Evil. f***ING BORING AS BATs***!

I am currently playing Boom Blox now and then... and it's an ok time filler, but I'm yet to really enjoy it. Hopefully it'll be better multiplayer.

Maybe I do:( I really am over video games... so maybe that's my problem... maybe my Wii doesn't deserve all the abuse I give it.

Mario Kart Wii is fully sick.

I'd suggest trying to pick up a second hand copy of Twilight Princess, because there's f***loads of progress being made in the homebrew scene through an exploit in that game. It keeps looking more and more promising, without the need for a modchip.

Plus Twilight Princess is one of the best Zelda games to date, if you're into that kind of game.

Wii Sport - keep going, try the training and unlock some stuff
Mario Kart - always good get it
Wii Fit - great fun and as per Sport keep going and unlock lots of stuff
Mario & Sonic Olympics - as above...lots of fun and unlocks

lets face it...the Wii has it's place and it's a party/family fun machine. it's a no brainer good timer fun machine.
if you want high end graphics and great FPS then argue with the plebs about PS3/360/PC

otherwise put things in perspective and enjoy each console or PC game for what they provide and are.
perceived value is all you need worry about!!

Resident Evil 4 is one of the best games I've ever played. Try that out if you didn't already play it on PS2/Gamecube.

^ Yep - when I had had my Wii my fav games were Resident Evil 4, Scarface (a really good GTA clone) & Mario Galaxy.
f***ING BORING AS BATs***!
Yeah - this is why I sold mine & bought a PS3 instead.

Tell me about it. My brother bought a Wii months ago and it has not seen that much use lately.

From the top of my head I've played:

0. Tiger Woods 2007 or 08: Quite a fun, mature game to play with the family.
1. Wii Sports: Fun for a week, then is played only occasionally.
2. Red Steel: Alright but very repetitive.
3. Mercury Rising: Fun for a while, lose interest quickly.
4. Zelda: The first few quests were so f***ing boring and childish, I returned the game.
5. Resident Evil 4: Seriously boring and repetitive.
6. SSBB: What the f***, it's like MK with all the fun removed.
7. Mario Kart: Childish and over-rated.
8. Super Paper Mario: Retarded and childish.
9. Mario Strikers: I remembered I'm not 12, returned the game.

Basically for me, Mario/Zelda games bore me to tears. Though they were fun to play when I was in primary school. The usual weak retort to this is "you probably don't know how to play and got your arse kicked". Say whatever makes you sleep better at night.

I guess you really have to be a Nintendo fanboy to appreciate some of these games, which seems to be the case considering how insanely hyped up the games are before release by many Wii owners who haven't even played some of them.

I like my games to have some decent missions (not pointless quests), plus a bit of violence as opposed to dropping banana peels and shooting shells .. jesus christ. Hence our PS3 (that came with the Bravia TV) is seeing s***-loads of use.

yor doing it wrong

mario kart has great depth of gameplay

its the old video game adage

you want it to be easy to play for everyone, but also to be rewarded for putting time in and honing your skills, which mk does (and does extremely well)

yes the visuals are kiddy, but really, who cares

i want my games to have gameplay, which mariokarts has in spades

No I'm not doing it wrong. As I said, I don't see any appeal in playing a game where a major part of your "deep gameplay" is doing childish s*** like:

1. Dropping banana peels
2. Shooting turtle shells
3. Playing as cutesy characters.

Might be fun for a quick bash with friends for a few hours, but I can't take it as seriously as some of the Nintendo fanboys do .. where they make it sound like a life-changing experience and try to force me to play it when I'm over instead of socialising like adults over beers (and/or violent games).

If I want to play a racing game I'd rather go for one in the Trackmania series or Gran Turismo (if I want to console it up).

Each to their own.

Vote 1 for wiikart. Loads of fun.
Wii fit isn't too bad as well.
If you live with flat mates/family etc, get four controllers. Great fun

Multiplayer games are boring by yourself :/ If you don't have local friends (ie, people to come play at your house pretty regularly) who enjoy games like mario kart or smash bros, then I doubt you'll like the games much.

It's the same with a lot of games, on the PC side worms comes to my mind first and foremost. Would never have put much game time into it without the mates who got me into playing it with them in the first place.

Playstation fans always seemed more interested in single player, although I understand thats been changing to some extent with the PS3 (yeah there have been earlier multiplayer titles, they just haven't been the focus of the platform imo.)

The xbox and 360 were kind of a mix, got some decent multiplayer titles and some single player titles, I think the 360 has the better overall selection out of all three at the moment.

That's not the case in my situation. Most of my friends play these games regularly (with varying playing skills) and try to get me to play when I'm over, but I still don't like playing. They throw the controller at me, I throw it back.

Free Wii FTW! I got mine from them too. My kids love playing the lego star wars. Mario Galaxy is also very cool. Haven't tried Mario cart yet, but will probably pick it up this week. Keenly waiting on Super Smash Bros.

yeah, me and the mrs have been playing it all weekend

got a second controller and a two-controller charge station and battery packs.

rented super paper mario and while you're acutally bopping the turtles etc its fun, but going through 14 minutes of back story is boring

awesome fun though, the mrs is a bit scary when she plays the boxing in wii sports - its pretty easy to fire up

so true, i loved the previous paper marios but the most recent seems to be more reading then actual playing.

i did love the way the game flipped between 2d and 3d though.
