A few years ago trog showed me this audio file that you listen to with headphones on. You hear a guy shaking a match box at different places around your head and it sounds incredible surround despite only using 2 speakers. This one blows that out of the water.

Put some good quality headphones on at a decent sound level... sit back and relax... close your eyes and listen to this. Try not to freak out.

thats pretty crazy, but it just highlights what i've always thought that 'stereo' is extemely powerful and under-utilised.

That was insane billy. The best 4 minute clip ever. The guy whispering in my ear at the end sent shivers down my spine.

It helps to have good surround sound heapdhones by the way. That was awesome!!

A mate I work with was showing me an LG dvd player+tuner in one, which he had just cracked open after it sitting around for 6months due to renovations. I noticed a 10.1 audio on the box which astounded me thinking that 7.1 was the best out at the moment. I looked at the back of the dvd player only see RCA outputs for 5.1 sound and was like WTF? Upon closer inspection of the box I read "virtual 10.1" witch puts a virtual speakers between your existing 5.1 speaker setup basically giving a true surround sound effect. So I guess what was done with this "virtual haircut" is similar to that of making a physical 5.1 surround setup into a virtual 10.1 surround setup.

That was insane billy. The best 4 minute clip ever. The guy whispering in my ear at the end sent shivers down my spine.

My left eye flinched thinking Luigi was going to spit on me as he spoke.

theres not a great deal of 'virtual' about it. It is exactly as he said, a true stereo mic setup to replicate your ears, of which they have done a very good job, however the front/rear axis was a bit funny, mostly due to not having an ear to colour the sound properly on that axis.

Haha... it's "virtual" because you're hair isn't shorter at the end.

I was totally expecting someone to scream really loudly all of a sudden... but it never happened :P

Had that of happened with my eyes closed totally immersed in this crazy sound room I would have crapped myself.

I opened my eyes twice expecting to see some dude standing there cutting my hair, trippy. I got my hair cut this arvo so it added to the weirdness.

Wow, we need some way for game developers to easily and effectively emulate this for FPS.
