i turned my computer on today and the resolution and colours where all f***ed up like there were no graphics drivers (weird colours and res wouldn't change off 640x480) went into device manager - rollback driver. Reset and it started working all good again.

Now i come to play a video file, doesnt matter what type or video, doesnt matter what player i open... no video comes up. I have uninstalled VLC, installed the new VLC and div-x drivers and nothing =(

What can i do to fix this =(

have you tried reinstalling the video driver rather than just rolling back?

try disabling overlay support in your video player, another thing to try is re-installing directx.

People still use codec packs? I installed VLC a while back and have never had it not play anything (except Dirac, but that's to be expected). Thank f*** I don't have to dick around with all that goddamn codec bulls*** any more

What makes K-lite so s***? No ad-ware, no viruses and it works f***ing great.

But hey, if your into installing 20 different codecs manually, go for it.

unless your content with VLC of course.

Or you could use 1 simple codec that works for basically everything in every directshow media player, so you aren't installing 20-30 different bloat codecs automatically that all can do similar/the same thing, and are even based off/include this: FFDshow.

FFDshow doesnt play quicktime or real media, or ogg or DVD's through media player and a bunch of other crazy encodes out there. K-lite takes up f*** all resources (20mb) and will allow you to play back pretty much everything

This is correct, so you just get qt alternative lite or ra alternative lite, still beats the rest of the crap tho.
or ogg or DVD's through media player
Yes it does.

Haven't used VLC myself, but I use K-lite mega pack and I haven't had any reason to search for greener pastures.
I’ve only ever had one problem that was documented in the included help files. Cure was as simple as switching to a different decoder.
Since then, nothin

Again, I dont have to search for a bunch of codecs, just one exe.

and Iv never had FFDshow successfully playback DVD's through media player properly, granted that was a while ago now.

regardless, just because you like installing codec packs, it doesnt make k-lite "s***". When you get to work in an enviroment surrounded by staff who watch videos that have been encoded eleventybillion different ways, youll appreciate codec packs, let me assure you.

only problem with VLC (and it REALLY annoys me) is that you can't access the time bar in full screen mode. RAWR!!!

mediaplayer classic plays DVD's just fine and takes up even less than 20mb. I've got mediaplayer classic + ffdshow for most stuff, videolan for some things that MPC just doesn't seem to like and the quicktime alternative thing is what I believe comes with the k-lite codec pack. Real media is gay and can go die in a fire so I never have a need for that.

FFDshow even includes encoders so if you have virtualdub you can also convert stuff to other formats after a bit of creative editing (obviously mediacoder is better if the video needs no editing).

yah that s***s me too but you can get around it by clicking video -> always on top but then its there all the time :(

You can in Mac OS X version. This is a big deal I think for the VLC team and it's listed as an "Idea" in their Google Summer of Code thing, so hopefully someone picks it up and sorts it out.
