I have used a guy twice now... I found him recommended on DTVForum.info. His name is Fabian, from Access Aerials. Hes fairly low-key, but he gets the job done well.

Fabian's number is 1300 360 367.

You could also try Brisbane Antenna Specialists, http://www.brisbaneantenna.com.au

My uncle had aerial problems (he lives down near Gold CoasT) and ended up just buying a digital tuner which instantly fixed his reception. I always thought that was a bit weird, cuz I would have thought digitial tuners would need as good as, if not better, reception as analog?

before digital our reception here form the roof aerial was rubbish

no channels clearly

after i got my stb, all channels on digital were perfect

we had an electrician in though and i got him to wire up the tv in the bedroom from the roof top aerial and since then its been dodgy on both teles

have heard of lots of peeps with similar stories, ie that going digital fixed all their issues;

i need my fta fixed for the footy and cricket! (channel 10 is one of the flakiest channels)

thanks mongie, callin yor guy now;
:(
doh, fabian booked out until may

My brother has really bad reception at his place as well and I recently showed him that his tv had a hd tuner built in. All channels are perfectly clear except for channel 10 which won't come through. Does this mean tweaking of the antenna or what?

Also at home we get like drop outs where the reception for HD goes and comes back, or the sound goes for a while or glitches appear on screen I suspect it is because the reception for normal tv is degraded since we aren't using boosters but sharing the reception with 3 other tvs. Can anyone confirm this since I don't know how digital tv works.

Because with picture, we notice the slightest bit of interference, anything short of perfect is bad for analogue, where as digital boxes can error-correct to an extent. They are especially good at fixing shadows (which is caused by a reflection of the signal from a mountain or something).

Fabian booked out until May? argh. He must be popular these days.

The other mob (Brisbane Antenna Specialists) also get a mention on the DTVForum, although I've never used them myself.

Please note: To Achieve the best digital reception (and analog for that matter) you MUST use Quad Shielded RG6 cable. Its REALLY stiff cable (and more expensive.) Dual Shielded RG6 and RG5 is also available, but not as good.

spook - did you put a splitter in the aerial cable yourself?
one thing to watch is to keep some of that foil touching the end bits when you strip the cable for the joiners.....i missed that last time and got fuzzy reception.
also your booster has to be in line before the splitter...
i used this guide to get it right....its not hard....

http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq_advice/common/howtos/installTVFMaerialsoutlets/main.pdf

if you reception was good before the extra outlet then it's not likely the aerial

good luck

what ive finally settled on for best reception was, roof aerial straight into stb, stb signal out to booster, to bed room tv;

but i think the sparky farked something coz just using hte roof aerial to stb used to be perfect

got some guy coming tomorrow to have a look

mmmm sounds unusual....i'd just go aerial -> splitter -> wall outlet
then have a STB on each TV....they're only $50 these days for SD
splitting after the STB would degrade the sig....
mightn't even need a booster

Not a fan of the antennae guy.. I asked him to put in an Fm radio aerial for my dad so he could pick up some obscure stations around the place.. The guy just did a regular tv aerial and walked off.. even hooked it up to the Television and everything.. yet the invoice, the job order all said RADIO AERIAL and the cabinet with the radio/stereo all in it were pulled out to allow him access.. the tv was much harder to access and hooked up to foxtel..

so in short.. make sure they have a clue what they're there to do...

ill be watching him like a hawk

and did the aerial hook up that way, because through the signal for both tvs was ruined by splitting

Spook... I get intense digital reception in a poor quality signal area because I bought a digital aerial. It doesn't have UHF. You can even put them in the roof.

I can have both my digital TV's turned on together both running off my 10+ year old analog antenna that I wired up myself. Did you use a proper antenna splitter or just hooked both of them up to the antenna and put both of them through the booster?

the electrician hooked up the splitter

he used the original cable off the aerial which is pretty dodgy and most likely the source of all the problems

For the longest time I used a 30cm piece of green (important!) hookup wire jammed in the antenna socket on my STB and blue-tacked to the wall at the other end and got perfect reception on all channels. quad shielded rg6 my arse.
