Im have a new hp laptop. Its a DV6000 Dual AMD 1.9 with 2 gb of ram. 32 bit version. It has just had a fresh install of vista put on, and it has a very slow boot. It goes into a black screen after the welcome screen of vista. You can see the mouse in the screen, it can sit in the screen for up to 3 minutes, then it loads windows. The exact same one in the shop does not even entre the black screen it just loads straight up.

I have had it re imaged by hp, still does not work. Also put 4gb of ram in there and still loads just as slow. It has all the vista updates and SP1 installed. Passed the harddrive and memory tests at hp. Any ideas.

It is a DV6601AX. Got the finger print scanner on it.

I got a toshiba with a fingerprint scanner, day after I got it the scanner stopped working and can't even be detected. Seems a bunch of other people with different models (mostly sony it seems) have the exact same issue with the same fingerprint reader chip. Hope yours lasts longer :)

Shops are sneaky bastards, they don't shut down their laptops they suspend/hibernate them which cuts down on startup time significantly. A computer fully shutdown might take say 1 minute to get to windows in a usable state where the same one suspended might take 10 seconds. I noticed this trick in a bunch of stores when I was looking for a laptop.

do HP still charge $300 to re-ghost your HD?

It is only a few months old so everything so far has been covered by its warrenty, thank god.

I did the startup check. It was having a problem with the sound card, so i have changed the drivers for that. It seems to have worked. Well it boots perfect 9 out of 10 times. So not sure what that would be.
