i thought it was relatively interesting coz it echoes my feelings on file sharing... it's not stealing because you aren't taking something away from someone else, but of course the industry would prefer to call it stealing coz of the social stygma attached to theft. file sharing is an ip copyright infringment & requires laws to suit.

I've heard that kind of argument before. I'd post a paper that i found that went into more detail about how bad IP is but i can't remember how i got to it.

What would happen if one person bought a game and then everyone else leeched it? The company spends millions in development and makes about $80 from one sale while thousands of people copy it because, hey, it's not stealing because the original person still has theirs.

It's not stealing (or piracy for that matter), it's copyright infringement. It's a different crime all together. I'm not suggesting that copyright infringement is justifiable or even right, it's not.

At the end of the day the way people accept, or even thrive on, piracy is going to cause massive changes in affected industries. What those changes, and how they effect us, nobody knows, but I'd wager on 'suck more'.
