Topic: What is Internet Stalking?

With the worlds fascination with myspace, facebook and blogs when does 'reading someone's page/blog' become stalking?

I feel dirty reading friends blogs or webpages because so many of them have SO MUCH information about themselves on there. I feel like a dirty old man spying on little girls.

It is a human need to feel part of society. One person started going on to this site, mentioned it to another who then had a peak at what myspace/facebook was all about, who then recommended it to someone else. Simple as that.

Also yes, I feel it is a little creepy to be able to read comments ppl have posted on a friends page. I think it is an advantage that ppl can upload photos (e.g. holiday photos) on their page to show all their friends at once tho.

If people post personal information about themselves on a public forum/myspace/facebook then they have nothing to complain about when people read it. Perhaps if people realized though the types of sicko's that are out there though they may have second thoughts about doing it.

reading myspace/facebook tripe is hardly stalking. stalking is turning up at thier place n staring at ém thru the window, with a rifle in hand, muttering stuff like 'jugdement day approacheth, the time of reckoning is almost at hand' *nervous eye movement* :P

well the person obviously feels comfortable puting that much information on the internet, so why do you feel guilty ?

It is more the blogs that link to other blogs and you find yourself reading about someone you know, but don't know. If you know what I mean.

I don't know. As someone who used to put s*** on the net and was stalked anywhere I went (actually followed and searched for not just read a blog I owned) I feel kind of guilty.

But it is so much fun finding out about people without having to socialise with them (oh god, did I just admit that? haha)

I dunno, once upon a time it was frowned on and now writing your life on the internet seems to be the thing to do - and I just don't see the appeal (of writing, not reading :p)

It is public information, if you want to waste your time reading what people babble on facebook/emospace then go for it.

kat, prolly most of the stuff people write on those s***ty blogs is bulls*** anyways... just like the infamous myspace pose photos :p ppl can write whatever they want, which makes it pretty pointless to read imo.

people usually feel comfortable putting info about themselves online until a friend gets robbed while their status was 'visiting mum and dad'

or the bank calls to double check that the credit card they didn't apply for should be posted out rather than picked up from the branch.

this has happened to friends of family in the last 6 months, and having a network public facebook profile was chosen as the likely cause in both cases.

Yeah I used to write on a forum about chicks and stuff I met ... well some other a****** on the forum used my real name once, so the site would come up in google, and if you clicked my profile you could see my recent posts.... this all bit me in the ass one day when a girl decided to "just look up people she knew" yea yea whatever stalker!

what comment are you saying that to? I can't see anything she wrote to which that would be a logical response

I always wondered what would happen if 2 stalkers go together. I am far too lazy too stalk people and would prefer it if they sent me their daily ongoings in an email.
