Topic: Crysis Coming to PlayStation 3?

Rumors are coming in that Crysis, originally a PC exclusive, is coming to Sony's console. Some members of the social networking communities are debating the claim, however the source for the news looks quite convincing.
Even before the PC version released, rumours of a PS3 conversion of the stunning Crysis (developed by Far Cry creators Crytek) were rife, and not far off the mark if insiders at the studio are to be believed. The game looks to be a port of the PC original plus some extra modes and features, a kind of Crysis 1.5.

done & done, some people on digg have marked is as potentially inaccurate, but looking at the comments, it looks like it is just 360 fanboys being upset.

From looking at the comments they are saying this story has no source and could basically just be made up? Is there something that i missed?

I wouldn't be suprised if some sort of iteration of crysis came to both 360/ps3. It completely bombed out on the pc market shipping only 83k units on the first month. They need to recoup their looses somehow.

I highly f***ing doubt this, the PS3 runs games worse than the 360. If it does get ported it'll probably look like f***ing far cry

afaik the problem with developing for the PS3 (and why cross platform games look better at the moment on the 360) is due to the difficulties in programming for the cell. As far as I know, Ratchet and Clank + Uncharted don't push the processor very hard, and thats the same for the PS2 as well - it was pretty bad to develop for compared to the original xbox, dreamcast etc.

That being said, Crytek are known as really cutting edge developers, so wouldn't suprise me if they end up pushing the ps3 more than anyone has pushed it so far.

Comparison between Timesplitters (launch title for PS2) and God of War 2 (late era PS2). Now remember the PS3 has a much steeper learning curve than the PS2 :D. In comparison the 360 is a glorified Powermac + it XNA, so there is much less of a learning curve.

hah, crysis STILL isn't even optimised for multi-core processors...and we're to believe they're taking it over to the PS3 with it's multitude of Cell processors?

I'll believe it when I see it running in real-time. And nod at Orbiters comment, I'd be more inclined to believe it if they said it's running (slightly cut down) on a 360 before a PS3 with supposedly more features.

Cryteks idea of "pushing" is waiting till hardware is powerful enough to run their code. (or almost powerful enough..)

Meanwhile the first screens of World in Crysis have been leaked.
I'm guessing they are real

I remember reading that the PS3 is the hardest system to program for which is why there aren't many games out for it (by which i mean quality games) however that will eventualy change i'd say over the next year. hell until gears of war and eternal sonata, i had no intention of ever buying a 360. Just wait until the final fantasy games get released and ps3 will skyrocket IMO. if they could program it well enough so no major, game haulting bugs were to be found, it could do well.

As for the images lynx posted... i cant imagine why anyone would look at crysis and think "hmm, its pretty but if only it were better looking..." the game is like a massive tech demo for the engine itself. seriously. mod devs and game devs, stop getting in dick waving contests over your game engines. yes they are pretty and they can do pretty things. stop wasting 70% of your time on an engine that 80% of the gaming community cant even run well. a crazy thought but mabye making games that lasted more than 8 hours would boost sales

Who the hell would be fooled into thinking those shots are from Crysis 2? They look exactly the f***ing same as Crysis.

Are you sure?

Shad did a test with his quad core and crysis was putting all 4 cpus at about 25% load.

Have you ever wondered how the 360 and PS3 have such good graphics, yet have so little RAM.
While the games are being played, the consoles are regularly reading
from the DvD or Bluray discs. This is why they don't need much RAM, they don't load the whole level to the RAM. Data is loaded incrementally as it is needed.

The PS3 has an advantage with Bluray having 50gb of data storage. Theoretically the PS3 can produce much larger maps with more detail.
I'm positive the 360 has the greatest number crunching power, but this is the 360's downfall.
Lets hope Micro$oft begin making HD-DVD games, with Bluray and HD-DVD having the same disk capacity.
