I've found a huge difference with 3D animation movies like Ice Age 2 and Shrek etc.

I'll second the 3D animated movies. I saw Ratatouille in HD, and it looked fantastic. Far more obvious of a jump compared to live action movies.

also, try this www.highdefdigest.com for all HD/BR news and also disc reviews and information. unfortunately, since bluray is region coded, you can't get all the movies that are reviewed

The best I've seen is Blackhawk Down. The amount of detail you can see at 1080p is just bloody insane!

MI3 is meh. Casino Royale is not bad.

transformers is exclusive to hddvd at the moment but that should change.

I have Ratatooie on Bluray and its f***ing awesome.
Also Planet Earth.
Might pickup Casino Royale in a while, its just I've watched that movie about 5 times since it came out so don't really need to purchase it so soon..

Didn't Paramount recently jump ship and make a deal with Blu-Ray? Might have been another one of the big companys though, not totally sure.

true, but paramount, dreamworks and universal are changing their agreements at the moment so they will release on both formats.

Spielberg is not going to miss out on money. Indiana Jones IV will be on Bluray by the end of this year as will Transformers, even earlier possibly.

i watched 300 the other day on blu ray and it looked pretty good. I dont know whether i would say i saw a great difference or anything though. I'll have to have a go with some 3d animation movies :D

It's great that your choosing which films to get because of the media, rather than because of the films themselves.

There's not really much point in buying something in HD if it's not gonna look all that different from standard DVD.

Why would i buy a movie on blu ray that will look exactly the same as on standard dvd?

partyhat, universal has confirmed that they are still committed to HD, and will not be changing any time soon. no word either way from Paramount or dreamworks though

EDIT: nope, paramount (and so dreamworks too) have said they're sticking with HD
