So.. anyone applying for anything?

My girlfriend just got her first preference for a Bachelor of Creative Industries (Interdisciplinary) - Creative Writing and Fashion.

She was terrified that QTAC would give preferences against her as she is a mature-age student. Now I get to say, "I told you so" :)

f***ing oath I do!

Not because I get to say "I told you so", but because the girl I love has just been accepted into something she's wanted to do for a very long time.

So.. this is supposed to be a celebratory thread. If you don't have anything nice to say, then GTFO and f***youverymuch for coming. :)

Because I'm being a gentleman and waiting for her to finish her celebratory scotch :) (I promised her I'd crack open a bottle of 21yo Royal Salute when she got in :D)

Grats Clint, now we know what you'll be studying in 4 years time once you're old enough to finish high school.

Grats to your lady, Ges :D

I didn't get anything from first round offers, however I did swap degrees internally within QUT so it didn't matter that much. But my sis got her first round and was accepted into Nursing. be very cautious she likes jabbing people with needles.

WHAT?! You can do that?

I was thinking of switching from Applied Science (Medical Science) to the standard Applied Science, two seperate course codes.

In the January offer round you have been offered:
725002 Bachelor of Pharmacy - full-time at The University of Queensland, St Lucia Campus.

You must respond by Monday, 21 January 2008.
Your offered course is currently listed at preference 1.

I applied using my gpa from B.Sc from UQ. I didn't expect to get into it as OPs are normally 1-2 so I'm pretty happy atm but I now have to get ready to going back to getting paid very little and studying :( It will be worth it.

Yer, easy as pie. It isn't about course codes when swapping. They let you swap easily between subjects in the same school.
You need to grab a form and fill it in and bam! your done. Do this soonishly though, because after a certain date it will cost u $50.

Will get straight onto it Toll!

I really enjoyed Chem2 last semester and want to do the Organic reactions/mechanisms unit along with Biochemistry and Cell Molec2... which unfortunately medical science doesn't offer much flexibility.

I think qmass hit the nail on the head with a Biochemistry major / Chemistry minor.

Ny nick is from a private joke where a mate of my mate a complete tool of himself at school years ago.. It's kinda stuck since then.

It does *NOT* say "Gets the men", it's a deliberate mis-spelling of Gethsemane.

^ Offers are released in the paper tomorrow - I think the courier mail.

All offers are released unless the applicant has specifically chosen to have their offer private with QTAC.

I did 6 months of a double in Business/Creative Industries and CI was so so so bad I dropped out of uni and took a year off thinking I would never go back. (Decided to give it another go and have just done first year secondary education with ESL and Japanese as my two teaching areas.)

Edit: Congrats to all who got their offers :)

Grat,

I'm not sure really. I mean, CI might not be bad for everyone, was just completely different to how my guidance counsellor at school had told me it would be and just didn't at all match what I imagined I would be studying. I just thought it was very airy fairy, but that's mostly because it didn't at all relate to what I wanted to be doing.

GP, sure does.

I was trying to find a photo that was taken while at uni to sum up the CI faculty. Couldn't find it but basically..

the reception was empty so they had a sign that said: "If reception is not staffed, please email this address. We aim to reply within 5 working days"

WHAT THE f***?!

I did the IT/Comm. Design course there. Just finished it this semester after working FT last year. IT was decent, but CI is very very airy fairy as Minxy said and you'll come across so many unorganised units/lecturers/tutors. I'd be pissed if I didn't do IT, as most people come out and go into web dev, which really isn't that great of a job for 3 years at uni.

Most my mates though work in the Games Industry since they have the other IT programming experience and have some design knowledge. I decided to follow the IT Networking path.

I found the people in my CI classes were extremely snobby and cliquey and basically as one of the only first years in the class they all had their own friends and wouldn't talk to anyone new. The tutors I had were really arrogant and if you didn't share the same opinion as them you got blasted. One of my tutors.. Peter someone.. would completely shut you down in front of everyone if you asked a simple question. I remember one girl had a question about a statement made in one of our readings and he told her in front of everyone that if she was too unintelligent to read complex pieces of literature then it was her problem and no one elses.

Also yeah Creative Industries is a joke

Chances are if you're interested enough to want to do it, you could teach yourself more than they ever could.

plus i was getting 6's so you know its a bludge

Hey thanks Matty.

Chub I finished it in 2004. I honestly think it's worth working for a year after school before going to uni (if you want to go that is) unless you've known since you were like 5 that you wanted to be something like a lawyer etc.

In regards to a science degree too, it was great, but is only of real worth if you're going to complete honours and get into research at your uni or are going to progress to med or dentistry. That's just my opinion though.

Congrats to everyone though. Seems to be a lot of ppl on here going to QUT.

Yeah Im thinking now my first preference should have been Griffith.

The main reason I applied for the Fine Arts Degree at QUT was the particular course includes automatic acceptance into the Graduate Diploma of Education. So not only do I not need to stuff around with QTAC again in three years, the degree is structured a little differently to accomodate for teaching and a second teaching area.

Would have been nice rocking up to Southbank every day to the Griffith arts college.

All you need is a GPA of 4.0, shouldn't even factor into your decision.

UQ Law.. when I was studying there, it was crazy the number of smoking hot chicks in the classes.. and how as the semester went on, they seemed to latch onto guys who seemed to be doing well and then stop coming to classes..
