Doing some testing and evaluation of providing streaming videos (you might remember we looked at this a while ago). Got a very very very rough prototype up, more just to test the technology than anything else. If anyone can hit this page and try to watch some videos, that'd be handy.

Duke Nukem Forever example.

You will need the latest version of Flash. If you don't have it, it should tell you that you don't and not let you do anything until you've upgraded.

That DNF one takes me to a d/l version, not a streaming one. Unless I'm doing something wrong.

Sounds like you're doing something wrong to me! It should take you to a page with a flash box on it and a link underneath it saying "download this video"

Ok, I see what happened. I clicked on the flash link and installed that and it's all fine now.

I accept your apology trog.

outdated flash notice needs to be bigger imho. remember most people on the internet are stupid and you do have it right above the download link so it just looks like you have no streaming video only a download link.

edit: that dnf trailer looks like the quake3 intro video, wtf.

Needs to have a better placeholder so people know there's supposed to be a video there, I think.

Ah no it wasn't. I thought you meant flash version >= 9. I just upgraded to the latest (9.0.115.0) and it works a treat.

I prefer streaming, (instant grat FTW) espesially if its high quality like the example on display.
I hate waiting for s*** to download, but sometimes, its nice to have the option.

As crazy as it would sound to the me of a couple of years ago, my personal pref is now streaming. If I just want to give a vid a quick check it's nice to have it just there. That said, having the option to download the full HD file if you want to is the big win and I hope we can easily maintain both.

I think it's overkill to provide every trailer in a variety of formats like some sites do. versions for ipod, psp etc. It would be great if we could settle on one standard format to encode all downloadable vids, my vote would be mp4, though I'm not sure which container would be the best bet for user-friendlyness.
