If you go to the Zest site you can get a free pass... I went for a workout with my mate who goes there and needless to say you have to fill out details to get your free pass and then you get spammed by the sales team.
Anyhoo, the guy calls me yesterday (this is after about 3 weeks after I rejected him outright) and says he can do a 12 month membership for $390 up front. No joining fees, nothing at all more to pay. The offer was pretty fkn tempting but I still have a few months left on my current membership. Thought I'd let people know in case they were thinking about getting a membership from there. |

My GF works at Zest Strathpine. Apparently it is a very limited offer that runs out in September and there is only a few of them around. She has 2 coupons she could possibly give to a 'friend'.
So you cant just walk up to the counter and say, 'hay Billy got this offer for $390, gimmie. PM me if you are a 'friend'. |

You know that September was a while back now? Gym memberships are such a f***ing joke. They have so much room to move and it's honestly more painful than shopping for a second hand car. UQ is getting a bit more exy, but you know exactly what you're getting and the staff don't ever try to hard sell you.

Did I say September? WTF was I on. I mean December, maybe I should talk to my girly more.
That $390 is also for the premium service, which basically means you can goto any Zest around. /Hard Sell |

Actually gyms are a f***ing joke in Australia. I'm at Fitness First Lutwyche atm, payin $88 a month for a passport membership (Meaning i can go to Toowong when uni resumes), and the quality of the gym is nothing short of tragic. They are lacking so much equipment and its actually starting to really aggravate me considering I'm essentially paying top dollar. I mean f***s sake, people in the US pay $15 a month for Gold's gym which is a fantastic gym.
How much are people here paying normally for like Goodlife/Zest? |

anything but a yearly commitment is balls. i went to spectrum at lawnton for $475/year (with 300$ written as a donation you can claim back on tax)
there's also a pcyc thats like 30$ a month. also i question the 15$ a month gold's gym, there was a gold's gym in peru but they wanted $12 for ONE SESSION |

Your paying too much. If your not on a yearly membership, harden up and change to one. If you are... sucks to be you. Does your Fitness First membership include use of a pool? Girly says Gyms here have it wrong. They are focused so heavily on sales and expanding for the sake of expanding that they funnel all your precious $'s into sales and advertising which could instead be used to upgrade gyms to uber equipment and awesome customer service like a good ratio of qualified general gym floor trainers (not personal ones) and complementary programming. There is a gym in Toowongish area that is meant to be excellent in quality because they focus on the current customers instead of potential ones. Anyone know about this gym? What sort of cost is it? |

pretty sure part of this focussing on current customers includes a member cap of 1000 which has already been reached iirc

Yes, the uber gym is at capacity and wont go over it. Gyms like that don't need to waste money on advertising and sales.

Your paying too much. If your not on a yearly membership, harden up and change to one. If you are... sucks to be you. Yep thats on a yearly membership (I assume you're referring to the 12 month contract?). Man $21.95 p/w is standard rates now for Fitness First (For Passport), plus its universal. I train at lutwyche normally (which I don't think is registered as a platnium club e.g. has a pool) which does have a pool, however, i signed up for FF at Toowong which doesn't have one, so I have my doubts as to whether I am actually being billed for it. Don't get me wrong, I love the gym, but I hate Fitness First. For the cardio bunnies and people who go there to socialize its great, but, for people who actually want to lift, its terrible (considering what you pay). The only reason i pay it is sheer convenience. When the uni term resumes i can go to the gym at Toowong and when I'm not at uni i just trek it to lutwyche. My question is though, what other decent gyms are there in brisbane that are convenient and affordable? |

I paid $499 for 13 months membership (that's $38 a month) with Lifestyle, and it's really good. Massive, heaps of equipment, very rarely have to wait for anything.
Finance First is massively overpriced. |

i go to hendra healthworks. it's not too bad, decent equipment etc. fairly busy during peak hours but if you avoid them it's sweet. $500ish/year, is that expensive? even if it is i probably couldn't be f***ed finding somewhere else, it's too close to my house to bother.

My question is though, what other decent gyms are there in brisbane that are convenient and affordable? UQ gym ftw. I think it's about 490 for a year (which includes a $60 UQ Sport membership fee). Lots of weights, never too busy, not many posers. |

signed up to the new goodlife gym at chermside when it opened, $50 a month, but after going there for about two months they told me my account hadn't been activated and I wasn't actually a member or allowed to use their facilities anymore so I couldn't be stuffed re-joining after their stuffup
