Well, I vowed never again to get a pet after my 2 cats, but this weekend I crumbled and got my self a new addition to my family, a purebred Rottweiler I've named Mishka.

The breeder told me I could expect Mishka to take alot after Demon. When I first saw this guy, he was playing with the breeders 9 year old daughter, when he saw me, I thanked god there was a fence seperating us =) |

There were 5 females and 3 males. Mishka is female and set me back $650. One of the males was sent to Darwin, while another of them was sent to Sydney. Mishka is the second Rottie I've owned, having grown up with one when I was younger. The one thing I have to get use to is Mishka having a tail, seeing as its illegal to have dogs tail's docked now.

If you want this dog house trained, get a crate or 2 washing baskets will do it.
At night put the dog out to go before you goto bed, wait with it until it does something. Praise the dog. Then put it into the crate/washing baskets (obviously put a blanket/cushion in there for the dog. The dog might whine a little at first but will learn to get over that. The natural instinct for a dog is not to go where it sleeps, in a crate it will learn in 2-3 nights vs a couple of weeks of not. No need for newspaper etc just wash it out if the dog does anything, also saves mess on the floor. I taught dog obedience for years and this is the easiest most rock solid way to train. If the dog whines just ignore it, they aren't hurt, upset or the likes, they are just trying to see your reaction. Most importantly, do not yell at, berate or punish the dog for not getting the house training thing. Its a dog, it doesn't understand your rules or language. |

Thats the number one thing I'm keeping in mind with her. I've set up her bedding area in my bedroom, at least for the first couple of weeks, with my Ipod playing softly and a lamp in the corner, but when ever she comes up to the side of my bed and rests her head on it and starts to whine I crumble and let her sleep on my bed. I keep telling myself to ignore her, but its tough. |

My sister has a rotty, bloody menancing thing but in reality it's the biggest pansy around. Loves to play, sook, etc.
Nice doggie TK! |

Chip it!
My girly has this habit of picking up stray dogs and bringing them home. We give the council a call to say we found it and hold on to them for about a week. Rarely they have collars with contact details, tis great then. A simple phone call and bam! little Billy is happy to get his dog back. When they don't have the contact details, we take em to the RSPCA and see if they are chipped. Again if they are sweet, Happy Billy. If they aren't chipped and no collar... Sad Billy. The dog is eventually given to the RSPCA and if it isn't collected after a little bit... Sad Billy and Dead doggy. :( |

Honestly Tanaka go a crate(or tape a couple of plastic washing baskets together), you can't beat it for training puppies and the puppies really love it. My Cocker Spaniel is 13 years old now and he still loves sleeping in a crate when I have one around, he hasn't had to sleep in one since he was a puppy. The theory goes that the dog feels more secure in a confined environment, they also feel more reassured knowing they a place that is theirs and is safe. Puppies are always looking to find their place in your pack, by giving them a bed/sleeping area away from yours (never on your bed) they begin to associate you as the leader.....this is essential for a happy and harmonious pack. 2 nites of whining for a life time of happy dog.

Thanks for the info Mass, I'll give it a go tonight. When you say tape a couple of washing baskets together, do you mean one on the top so the dog can't get out?
I grew up with a rottie, and fell in love with the breed. I like all dogs (some more than others) but given the choice, I'd pick a rottie everytime. |

If I was ever going to get a dog it would be a Doberman. The couple I used to know always had a pet rock. Seriously, these f***ers would play "fetch" with a rock the size of two of your fists an catch them in their teeth!
That an Dobermans just look plain cool when they snarl |

My pup is about a year old.
Not an aggressive bone in his body but the main appearance is that he is scary. Also I never wanted a big dog but I ended up with him. Now he is like a son and no regrets. last edited by Dodgymon at 01:00:23 16/Oct/07 |

Don't buy dogs from breeders there are plenty of dogs on death row at the pound you could be saving!
Here's one I got from the pound: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v683/shorty323/DSC00273.jpg |

Alize, I did look at the RSPCA, this wasn't a spur of the moment decision. I've been planning and looking for a couple of months now but couldn't find what I wanted.
