SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING - SOUTHEAST QUEENSLAND

for DAMAGING WIND

For people in parts of the
Southeast Coast Forecast District.
Issued at 3:43 PM Thursday, 27 September 2007.

Thunderstorms are moving towards the east. They are forecast to affect Ipswich, Redbank Plains and Amberley by 4:15 PM and Logan City, Archerfield and Slacks Creek by 4:45 PM.

Damaging winds are likely.

The Emergency Management Queensland advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES in your local government area, listed in the White Pages under either State Emergency Service or your local council.

The next warning is due to be issued by 4:40 PM.

Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 219. The Bureau and Emergency Management Queensland would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 4:35 PM, very dangerous thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Boonah and Kooralbyn. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east to northeast. Very dangerous thunderstorms are forecast to affect the Beaudesert/Boonah area and Laravale by 5:05 PM and Jimboomba and Coomera by 5:35 PM.

Other severe thunderstorms were located near Helidon. They are forecast to affect Gatton by 5:05 PM and Hatton Vale and Lowood by 5:35 PM.

Checking the radar it seems that the rain is fairly localised around the storm cells, and two of them have fizzled out.

If this doesn't reach Wynnum I'll be furious.
