This is what I saw when I walked into the office today. My birthday's on Saturday but I'm on leave from tomorrow until Tuesday. In almost 3 years at my last company, I never received a card, present, cake or any other form of recognition by anyone outside my team and only from a few within it.. I'm still struggling to come to grips with the difference between a *good* workplace and a *bad* workplace :) |

meh, i spose its nice to have work mates that care;
i knew i was going to love my job and work place, when at the end of the second week, we went into the cs area and played q2 on all the pcs instead of working ive put up with (relatively) low pay for years, because ive always enjoyed my job and where i work its just nice that recently ive started getting paid i like our people, our relaxed attitude towards drinking during work hours, the fact that our office is fun, relaxed working periods (no one cares if i go for a haircut, a long lunch, come in late coz of doctors appointments) even with our company getting more serious (floated), its still fun, i woudlnt want to risk getting a job elsewhere for more money, if it meant giving up the conditions i have now ooh, i should have mentioned i LOVE the relaxed email and web usage monitoring as well ive been abusing email for years, and no ones ever said anything unlike retarted governemnt jobs, where i have to continually spell words with numbers, just to have a normal conversation with my mates last edited by Spook at 10:07:19 26/Sep/07 last edited by Spook at 10:13:21 26/Sep/07 |

Looks like some serious workplace health and safety issues in that picture ... It won't be that awesome a place to work when your employers obvious neglect causes you major injury.

Actually, working across from my boss isn't that bad.. at least he can't sneak up behind me when I'm playing WoW or trolling forums :)
I know what you mean about the conditions vs pay argument.. I'm slowly coming to realise that there is more to a satisfying job than a fat paycheque.. (although, they certainly help!) Also, Stinky, your post about OH&S confuses and enrages Morbo! (NFI whether you're being serious or not :() last edited by Gesthemene at 10:22:03 26/Sep/07 |

unlike retarted governemnt jobs, where i have to continually spell words with numbers, just to have a normal conversation with my matesDifferent government departments have different policies. The one where i work only blocks about a dozen norty words. They haven't picked up on my forum trolling yet either, 18 months and counting. |

yer, ato are the main offenders
not only do they block bad words, but they also use smarts to dermine if your email is a chain letter or an ad so half the time, i dont even know whats been blocked, so ill just retype the whole message, using numbers to get it through and theres no surfing at the ato at all (they get 1 internets computar per department or something) how anyone gets and work done without the internets, i have no idea; |

They had something simular to this at my old work, even tho we needed it to do our job. a USB Network adapter and a proxy on a "misplaced" pc fixed that pretty quickly :D |

Also, Stinky, your post about OH&S confuses and enrages Morbo! (NFI whether you're being serious or not :() I don't think that requesting a safe working environment is something to get enraged about. I would guess that you work for a small company that doesn't have it's own WHSO nor engages an external one. I wonder even if they bother to pay their WorkCover insurance ... I guess that's the price you pay for a 'fun' workplace though, and you'll feel it was worth it when you're off work with 12 months injured with no compensation. |

C'mon now. WorkCover insurance is mandatory for every workplace and it is unavoidable.
Even if the employer does not pay their WorkCover premium (which is an offense mind you), the injured worker is still entitled to the benefits of WorkCover as it is a universal insurance scheme. It's the employer who will be in a world of pain. |

Where I work all we get is Nescafe Blend 33 in a plastic cup with a paddle pop stick and even that 'luxury' is in jeopardy. |

(hell.. it was still my gear, and I wasn't feeling kind enough to leave it there..) It was seriously like I'd kicked a puppy.. That'll teach them to hire s*** manangers (actually, it probably won't). |

Still don't get what you're referring to.. Where's the hazard(s)? They covered my desk in balloons and wrapped streamers around my chair.. You're right, it is a small company, but for all that, they really have their s*** sorted out well, and TBH, they're more organised and actually give a s*** about employee welfare/happiness and safety than almost any other company I've worked for. Eds can tell you some of the s*** that went on at our last place.. |

Hazards : 1) Laptop sitting half off desk with ribbon under it attached to chair. 2) laptop bag on floor behind chair - tripping hazard 3) oversized rubbish in bins 4) exposed power boards, no tags visible on power cables 5) streamer from chair wrapped around keyboard 6) potplant besides desk, tripping hazard 7) guy sitting down is sitting too high up for height of monitor 8) boxes under desk in foot space Need I go on? |

Ahh.. you're talking about pansy s***.. :) I thought there may have been some exposed and sparking electrical wiring or something that I'd missed :P.
As far as I'm concerned, if I trip over a potplant, pull the laptop off the desk (which I actually just put there to take the photo :P) etc, then it's my own damned fault, and my own D/TPD/T insurance can pay for it, if I'm wimpy enough to need time off :) |

Yep :) I sent you an email (to your gmail account) to say thank you, but I never got a reply, so I didn't know if you'd received it :) They're a really great mob :) I owe you a beer/bottle of wine/scotch/champagne/something :) |
