just tried logging on for a game and says
disconnect:steam id baned then a range of numbers.

havent done anything wrong.
my cd key/id has been safely locked away since i bought the game.

can anyone tell me the steps to rectify this?
it has happened to me on red alert 2 cd key years ago and got it fixed by sending photos of my original copy of the game.

Are you banned from a specific server or from the whole network? Go to the steam website or server website.

just tried to connect to gamearena servers.
two diff servers.

if you're trying to join a GameArena server then yeah your steam id is banned for "rate abuse". I assume you were playing css with the incorrect rates set.

Go here if you wanna be unbanned. http://www.gamearena.com.au/help/unban/ if not your ban will lift on 03-10-07

what is rate abuse?? pretty much everything on my game settings are default.

oO .. will the default settings in TF2 get you banned for rate abuse ?

sleepy, type these in your autoexec/console if you have cable or atleast 1500/256 adsl.
rate 30000
cl_updaterate 100
cl_cmdrate 100

The the default network settings in source games are bad. Chances are yours were on 7500/20/20

use for tf2 as well.

:wtc: gamearena bans you for weird rates now? Is there at least a warning? I ask because sometimes I'll find sneaky bastard servers will change my rates automagically somehow. Like I'll set them to 30000/100/100 and then go check them and they're back down to 20000/66/66 or something.

Also what's with gamearena telling me to use only keys found on a windows keyboard in my name? The apostrophe is on a normal windows keyboard ( ' thingy ) what character set are they using?

but yeah you get a temp ban after being warned of your rates on the css servers. I got no idea what it's about but apparently it makes it pretty gay for others if you play with wanky rates

yeah, with low rates u send less updates to the server and as such players cannot hit you, and ur bullets are controlled by prediction more, thus giving you the benifit of the doubt.

I was capped past few days, had to player with 33 33 10k and by golly jesus it was like I had hacks on, insane what you get away with, I dodged bullets and hs every thing that moved.

Well, thats all folks, I just found out that a pen on my table is 1/4 full and in a bit of a crysis here.!!
