Trying to find a decent mole scanning doctor to check mine as i haven't had them checked for awhile ... i know that there was one near Sunnybank but is that still there? Any other ones around the Southside area?

Why not just go to your local GP?

Go to your GP, the skin cancer clinics will cut you regardless of severity because its free money for them to do that. It's stressful, painful, and annoying.

that hasn't been our experience at least at the one at southbank, dunno if it's called molescan or not though, I can't remember
family of four, been there 6-7 times over the past few years and come out unscathed every time

There was a Molescan clinic on Chatsworth Road in Coorparoo - at the bottom of the hill between Logan and Cavendish Roads. At least there was when I was living in Coorparoo last year.

Oh that's probably a good sign then and they might be worth a crack

I prolly should add, part of my comment is based on conversation with my (doctor) dad, who points out that its in their interests to just cut you - its a really quick, easy procedure for them to do and they get instant phat medicare lewts

Yeah trog but if you go to a reputable doctot that won't happen. A lot of doctors are rorting the bulk billing system (scratch tests for people who have no reason to believe they have an alllergy for instance) but not all of them do.

I was thinking of going to my local GP ... problem is that last time he did a 1 minute check and was done ... whilst my old gp spent like 15 minutes making sure that they moles were checked correctly ... i'll probably just go to the GP first and see what they recommend. Cheers

Reminds me of this skin clinic in Perth I drove passed called "Mole Clinic" - I was tempted to wait until some skanks walked past and then took a picture of them in front of it.

Some of those clinics are good and some are just like a production line, but it's the same deal with GPs. Find a good clinic or go to a skin specialist once a year, you pay more but get a good chunk back. Also, keep an eye on your skin yourself.

There's a skin cancer clinic next to dominos at taringa.

But I'm going to my GP he's good. I'm quite conscious of cancer now actually!

If you go there see felix he is cool, but I would still recommend a plastic surgeon

the best mole change detective is yourself

absolutely not the case

or is that some kind of quote from somewhere

anyway yeah the molescan dude/chick goes over your whole body with basically this camera deal and looks at it on a monitor, they can store pics of ones they want to look at later and tag what part of the body they found it

all in all a bit more high tech than your gp, as for the scalpel-happy rumours i wouldnt know because my skin doesnt have any borderline issues

I've had a whole bucketload of BCCs cut out over the last few years from a variety of places, have lived with two GPs for the last year, and this is what I say:
- dont let anyone cut out anything without first doing a biopsy.
- just because a person works at a 'skin cancer clinic' doesnt mean theyre any more qualified/better than a regular GP
- dermatologists are great if you have a lot of money
- a good GP is probably more than good enough for regular checkups
- if you've got something that you think looks suspsicious, better get it looked at sooner rather than later
- ive had excisions done by a plastic surgeon and by GPs, and i really cant tell the difference between them all

seriously do not go to the taringa skin cancer clinic, they don't have the faintest idea what they're doing. the wanker kept me waiting in a room in my underwear for 40mins before seeing me then charged me for a long appointment time as well..

as said above, molescan seem good and they take pictures of anything strange to compare it the next time you go. the plastic surgeon that removed my last cancer makes me see a dermatologist though and reckons gp's aren't trained enough.

take your pick, you'll know if the person you're dealing with is a twit so just don't go back if they don't fill you with confidence. there's no regulation (afaik) so it's luck of the draw wherever you go.

I went to the west end one, near south bank, I have a big birth mark on my leg it has a new spot in it for a while he cut it out to be "safe" but honestly left a big scar and I felt like it was not a good quality job.

get a camera, take a photo of your mole every year, use photoshop to compare/overlay them, if they change chug on some whiskey, then go badmouth chub and he'll cut it out for you.
