I got one of those new HD dvd players, its supposed to have everything, the RRP on them are $999, but it will not even play a DIVX movie, or a burnt dvd from our DVD recorder. Is there some type of code you can get to unlock less. It says in the details in catalogues that it plays all those formats, so whats going on? The DVD work on the old dvd player, but thats not the point.

if it says it on the box and in the instructions then i'd take it straight back....
if they sold it to you under this pretence and it's not the case then also take it back.....

If it has like DVD-R/DVD+RW etc. that should be playing burnt DVDs. Also there is a difference between -R/RW and +R/RW so check the disc you are using in your DVD recorder and then match it with the functionality of your new player.

Well i didnt spend a 1000 on it d*******, it came in a package with the plasma for 2400 and the plasma costs 2450 still just by itself, the dvd was free. Thats why i said its RRP was 999. I would not spend that on a f***ing dvd player.

Um... Just because its a thousand dollars retail, what makes you think that it would play DivX?

Probably doesnt.

people, don't stress about the price, it's cheaper than a bluray player, and does more.

Monaro, that player does play burnt movies, that's what half of my test dvd's are at work that i use on that machine. make sure you're finalising it in your dvd recorder (not computer dvd burner, but stand alone recorder people). -r/rw though, not +

as for divx, hook up an ethernet cable to it and get online. there's an update coming out this month which will be adding a bunch of functions and one of them is supposedly going to be divx support.

msn me for more info or come back to the store and talk to us about it, that's what we are actually there for. msn is k_hove@hotmail.com

The law was amended late last year, it is finally legal to record and playback TV shows for your own viewing purposes. The government finally saw that the existing laws virtually made every household in the country guilty of Copyright infringement (probably including a lot of politicians). You can record and playback whatever you like from TV, just don't distribute it.

Technically, if you record it you may watch it. You can't however record it for someone else (say a housemate/partner), that said they can watch it with you. Also once you have watched it you are meant to delete it.
