Valve have announced that BioShock will be available on their Steam content distribution system, and in fact is now available for pre-loading. If downloading 8 gig isn't your thing, just wait for it on shelves here in .au on the 24th of August.

If I weren't going to get it on Xbox360, I'd be getting it off Steam for sure. Love Steam, the more games get released on there, the better.

Anyone who owns an EB store, I'll slip you a fifty if you break the street date and sell me one early.

Apparently the compressed pre-load download is actually only about 1.5GB.

I'm probably getting a vid card for use in this game and a few upcoming ones. 8600GT 256meg, that'll do the jobby I think. How much in the way of dx10 does this game do?

I dunno if its DX10 or not, but the water effects make me pre-load in my pants.

so if you want to play DX10 games, you need a graphics card that says DX10?? now when I typed it out it goes hand in hand but I don't see why you can't play DX10 games on 1 year old type graphics cards :/

You don't need a DX10 card Marty, you just can't use the DX10 graphics.

The xbox360 version is DX9 and the water effects are hot on there so I dont see why PC wouldnt be even better on just DX9. (I still havnt seen anything 'amazing' with DX10)

So far all DX10 has brought me is lower FPS and me pondering what the minute differences are.

DX10 doesn't really doing anything "new", just old stuff much faster.

Eh, what I mean to say is that, you won't see much that isn't possible on DX9.
Just that DX10 will be able to do these special effects, geometry, etc... in much more efficient ways that'll mean we'll see big jumps in the capabilities of graphic cards.

Actually, DX10 does a lot of new stuff, I think its more a matter of no games have come out yet which really use it to its fullest. We're going to start seeing games with mad deformable/destructible terrain effects, or car games with very realistic damage effects and stuff like that when DX10 becomes the norm and people start making use of geometry shaders.

IGN has the first Online PC Bioshock Review. They gave it a 9.7. The last page mentions the performance on a windows box very similar to mine :D

The PC version definitely outclasses the Xbox 360, mostly because of the ability to crank the resolution to 1920 x 1200. If you've got a Vista rig with a DX10 card, you can expect some heightened particle effects, crisper real-time shadows, and more dynamic water, but the game looks gorgeous regardless. On our gaming PC running a Core 2 Quad processor with a GeForce 8800 GTX, and 4 GB of RAM, it ran very well, with only a few occasions of seemingly random framerate hitches. We also couldn't find an option to switch between DX10 and DX9 modes, the game just seems to default to what's in your system, unlike Lost Planet.

I have read up. I understand that it is outperformed by dx9-only cards for a similar price, chiefly a x1950pro for a few dollars more. That is why I'm asking about the dx10 features in this game.

Asif spend $200ish on a vid card without knowing what you are buying.

Well someone locked my thread to highlight the fact that if you're in Australia and you buy the game over steam you can play it now instead of waiting for the 24th for the retail release.

So buy it now bitches!

I tried to download the demo on Steam yesterday, but I think Steam might be borked. I click the "Install Demo" link, and nothing happens. It's quite retarded.
