Check out my website (http://zero.racetime.com.au) and the html involved for some ideas which will get you way up there on search engine rankings. It wasn't even deliberate at first, though I now understand why and hence am able to optimize pages pretty well.

I quite often find myself above the actual original items I link to, even though noone links to me.

Trog,

I'm completely burnt out from learning how to make a website from scratch. I'd rather just pay someone else to do the SEO. It'd take me ages to learn and implement something that a pro could do really quick.

Raven, I'll send you a PM.

Got the PM, but I wasn't really trying to get more work - I already have enough, and frankly small jobs aren't worth what they're likely to pay (for me anyway). I was just trying to offer some pointers.

If you're still really desperate, I might be able to help, but really the key is in proper use of tags, and properly (but not overly) tagging keywords and content.

Remember, the more text on a page which isn't effectively considered (and marked as) low priority, the lower importance your keywords have.

Eg, A word embedded on a page of 1000 words of text is less important than on a page where it appears on a page with 100 words... but then there's also things to consider like what kind of tag block(s) the text was contained within.
(eg, putting everything inside [h1] is considered cheating, and gets ignored. But putting only the site name in [h1] is valued.).

I rock at SEO, but not once the site has already been made. It's all in how you structure and build it.

Yeah Idol brings the real point.

Your markup has a lot to do with how your site will index. SEO is part of the site building process as well as the publishing process (keyword/phrase repetition etc).

All in all though, any white hat SEO tips are basically just things you can do to make your house pretty for the guests, it doesn't necesarily mean anyone is coming to your party! Concentrate on building some quality link bait and places to draw traffic from and ye shall prosper. There's some real pieces of s*** out there that rank well on google.

Content is king!

Definitely. I think a lot of how you want to SEO depends on what the hell kind of site you have. AusGamers gets most of its SEO from well-ranked external links, but that won't work well for certain types of sites.

What sort of site are you building, if we may ask?
