TOOT TOOT!!! Heading to NZ on Tuesday and we are staying in the heart of Queenstown. We're about to go shopping for some essentials so can anyone give us tips on what the night life is like there? Can we get away with jeans, shirt, jumper and jacket? Where are the best places to party and how much are we looking at spending for a drink? Any info on being in Queenstown in general would be greatly appreciated!

Also, how much are we looking at paying for eating on the slopes??? Is it affordable or should we definitely be packing our lunches?

It's 'Holiday' affordable. I'd pack my own lunch though...

Yeah you should be able to go with the clothes you mentioned. Visit "The Cow"...it's a cute little restaurant in one of the back alleys (half the fun is trying to find it).

There's a really good thai restaurant near the mall somewhere also.

Yeh... I've read on some sites that they actually close the roads to the slopes when the car parks are full!? What time would I have to get there to not get cockblocked?

Driving up the mountain sucks. Be patient and avoid the jap drivers.

Nothing in Queenstown is cheap, And the mountains are worse. Last time I was there spent a bunch of time in an irish pub, the name of which I can't remember, as it wasn't too bad.

I once didn't go to New Zealand, it was the best week of my life. Then some other stuff happened, then dragons, then they lived happily ever after. The dragons that is... I think?

my hand modelling coach says cocaine make my hands prettier

That's an interesting point you raise there. However could it be interpreted from his/her point of view that in fact it is THEM that need to take cocaine in order to make YOUR hands look prettier? Is this something that should indeed be left to viewer discretion or would you prefer the drug be forced upon those in the audience simply so they can enjoy all aspects of hand modeling to their fullest? Interesting rhetorical questions I feel we should all ponder.

Queenstown doesn't have an overly active nightlife.

I would probably wholeheartedly agree with the above statement if I had even the slightest clue as to what it meant.

I went to Queenstown skiing last year, we didn't exactly go out too late at night because we were all so buggered from skiing. There are plenty of good restaurants though - but I wouldn't know too much about the 'night-life'. Great fun though!

Pog Mahones? Sank a lot of Speights in that place. Eating on the mountain can be an ass, we used to just get a hotdog and coke from the stand out the front (at Coronet, Remarkables were fairly unremarkable last year)

haha its funny you say that about Ferg burger coz I was having a chat with a friend of the families - he'd been to NZ as well and said they made the best burgers he'd ever had.

Try the Big Al at Ferg Burger. Bit of an experience to get through it but it's also a f***in' nice burger. It'd wanna be for $15. Teapots at the world bar (can't remember any other alcoholic things to try) and stay away from herbal ectasy...unless you want to be up for 3 days.

Back in NZ atm(Wanaka an hour away from Queenstown) Snowboarding at Cardona and TC, snows started to get really good if you can be bothered deffinatly pack your own lunch if you dont wanna spend $20 each a day on food/drink. Or hold out till 3pm they they do pies and hotdogs etc half price.

My Nana lives here so she was making us lunch most days oooh yea SuperNana!!
Winter festival opening night was good times in Queenstown, cold days get up to around 0 atm so prolly an idea to wear thermos under your jeans if you'll be spending alot of time in the outsideness, otherwise in the clubs they get real hot ay same as brissie.

Im back in Aus tomorow :(
Has been another awesum 2.5 weeks sking/boarding but ive been luckly i didnt f*** my ankle till the 2nd last day woot.
I should stop doing jumps i cant land hah

'The Cow' is on Cow Lane pretty sweet spot.
check out all the clubs plenty of them

Anyone heading down this way want to catch up drop into Big Bear and ask for Jase.

Fergburger is a must, also Winnies Pizza is a must as well, herbals (nothing to do with my nick) are s***. Grog is expensive load up on duty free. Everything here is expensive load up on cash. At 5:30am in the morning going to tardis is always a bad idea, unless you like pig hunting. Buying half you gear can be nearly as cheap as renting it. Also for those coming over here next year and riding more than 9-10 days, buy an early bird season pass in feb. Unfortunately drum and bass has taken over, there is little to offer in the way of live bands.

Yes Remarkables... and dislocated shoulder!!! He had to get snow mobiled off the slopes which was fun, then he was given heaps of morphine which was more fun. When the first aid dude met us on the slopes to see what had happened I asked, "How long do you think it will take?" He replied, "About an hour." I looked at Rob and said, "Well there's not much I can do... see you in an hour," and I took off. I had a great afternoon on the slopes.
