Michael Moore's new doco trailer about the U.S.A's rooted health system.

Interesting doco.. i took advantage of his kindness re 'allowing' people to download it via bit torrent..

Sure its like Bowling for columbine, alot of the scenes are staged quite heavily but it really does paint a pretty horrible picture of what the US government saw as public health back in the day.. eg Govt run healthcare would be akin to communism...DO YOU WANT THE GOVERNMENT TO DECIDE HOW YOU GET TREATED?! and all that..

The few real bits were kind of confronting, eg a man who cut his hand on a table saw having to choose which finger he kept because of the price it would cost to reattach one or the other.. bizzare stuff, thats not a system I think i'd like to be in

I read that Michael Moore nearly redeems himself with this, and it's true. It's surprisingly good. It may just be that for once he's attacking a group most people can hate, and to me the evils of socialised health care system with people waiting for months->years for elective surgery are insignificant when compared to people not getting proper/any treatment because they are uninsured.

If that's how you feel, then even if you don't like michael moore and dislike his grand-standing self righteous ways, then this is a decent film.

But then, maybe i've just been brainwashed by socialised healthcare...

I happily await the debunking of moore to commence once more because he's a fat lying c***.

Who knows though, perhaps he has learned from his past mistakes?

I thought Sicko was brilliant. Shows how badly the Americans have it in this regard. In Australia I guess we're somewhere about half way between Britain and the United States.

It's shameful the idea that private health insurance companies make people call up before to authorize surgery before it happens - not just because of the idea of having someone in a critical condition making calls of any kind, but also because it's just some monkey behind a desk making the decision, not a doctor who knows best.

I really can't understand the republican mentality in the healthcare system being this way.

hey xY, sorry to be disappointing but even though its hard to think of them as "news" these days, CNN have checked out the facts in his docco, and guess what? there right. so yeah, it might take a while for your wish to happen.

Great movie, I really enjoyed it.

There was a bit of fluff and bollocks throughout, but it built up to a good final scene when they all went to Cuba... then the reality sinks in.

If it's against the american government then i highly recommend watching it and wholeheartedly give it 5 stars, in advance.

there was once a time when every country had their own anti-american voice. americas cultural victory is so complete they now export anti-american culture to the whole world.

i'm surprised moore chose canada, england and cuba as the countries to contrast with. surely there are better choices or he is just proving his gift at persuasion by choosing countries at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to government run healthcare.

I think that was his point hast, or perhaps the easiest for the US viewers to relate to... that's all I can think of.

I hate to say it, but MM may have done Canada and Cuba a dis-service by advertising the cheap guys down the road. hell - I'm wondering if NZ is a better option than Australia for treatment and medication right now

Australia's health care is awesome it is not free but it is still pretty cheap (and the insurance companies don't rip you off like they seemed to do in sicko).
