ahh, that's what it was... Was on one of the tellies at work & I couldn't make out wtf they were looking at. Thought it was some really primative MMO being developed by an australian company & that's why they were wasting airtime on it.

It's older then old. And they obviously have some cash behind it. That's probably the 4th time i have seen it on main stream media.

They even pull stunts like set up real world embassies.

There's something weird about Second Life. The media is all over it, corporations are all over it, but people don't seem to really play it. Anyone here play/use it?

Somehow this dude has gotten it pimped all over the place undeservedly, and people trying to make money are jumping in there. The whole thing seems to be based on hype.

yeah, i agree.

it seems the people that have jumped on the second life bandwagon are trying to drum up hype to justify their decisions.

i see the same writer in the fairfax papers write an article pimping second life every second week.

What the fark is with the framerate?

How the hell could you spend any amount on time online with that ridiculous framerate.

Also, LOL @ having sex in Second Life while sitting right next to eachother... seriously, very demented.

A spaceship will set you back US$10,000.

What in f***? At least Second Life highlights that there are bigger knobs in the world than the 12yr olds who get addicted to WoW.

Had to add this quote;

JON JACOBS: Yeah, I really do. I think it's the greatest discovery since America.

I spent at least a good half hour looking for the "rape" button in second life.

They must have invested all the money for programming to make real big boobs for the 45+ year old men to use for their characters.

It's just a pity that it seemed to have a framerate < 10 when they were panning around, which amazes me. This was apparantly a cutting edge program (no doubt being run on a very expensive machine by todays standards).

Although I'm not a regular 60 minutes watcher, this pathetic excuse for an informercial has really turned me off watching the show again; it was more a Today Tonight "story" than something on a show that I thought at least had a little cred.

Wait for the story next week about the evils of internet voilence and sex. With a poor framerate and sim-like graphics.

haha, the dad in the family im living with in chile played this for like a solid weekend (two 15 hour sessions) then never touched it again

he showed me it and it looked pretty ordinary, he was pretty amazed with the actual economy part of it, but i think he's found better things to do with his time

i signed up to it a few months ago, even invested $10 to see what it could get me, i was disapointed, the game looks like s***, runs like s*** and is s*** boring. i even went to the sex fantasy areas and whilst amusing at first it didnt hold my attention long enough for me to stop uninstall and request a refund.

i did buy my guy a big penis and run around naked wearing a gimp mask. taht was kind of fun.

Yeh it was really lame... and 60mins is really lame nowerdays anyway. If you want real Current Affairs you've got to go with Auntie - Four Corners, Dateline and Blood Nut.

They really needed to do a story on all the WOW addicts.
