Oxycodone has been around for ages in Australian drug circles, just not the mainstream.

Predominantly it used to be aquired as "Oxycontin" through smaller groups, majority of the time from cancer patients, this limited the distribution significantly.

Now the majority of oxycodone abuse comes in the form of instant release "Endone" tablets, which can legally be prescribed for acute severe pain and moderate chronic pain (back pain/joint pain), this has caused an explosion in the avaliability of the drug.

I don't think Australia will ever be on par with the US, where Oxycontin is the drug of choice, since the majority of IR oxycodone there comes combined with paracetamol or ibuprofen which puts a limit on the amount of pills that can be consumed safe.

Most people claim it's more euphoric then heroin, but the drawcard is that it's socially acceptable to use and doesn't contain the large stigma of other opiates = lots of rich kiddies and celebrities abusing it.

hah what.. ive had this s*** before

my mate got his finger grinded in some machinery, and when they took him to hospital he was in so much pain they gave him these oxy pills and an extra prescription. they alleviated his pain, and he actually said he felt f***ing great. so he gave me one, and i thought it would just be like a heavy painkiller or something but woah i was fkn flying! after it wore off i thought nothing more of it.
Each 80mg pill fetches from $25 to $50 on the street.
i had no idea there was a whole drug trade behind it. we could have got some cash nigga cash!

My dad has boxes of these things and other super painkillers because of his seriously messed up back.. I remember years ago having a killer tooth ache for hours and I couldn't sleep, so I asked him for a pill. He gave me half of something and after 5 minutes I sat on my bed laughing before passing out for 12hrs - best sleep ever.

Oxycontin is an SR, Endone it QR.

There isn't much difference between the two other than that.

There is to drug users.

Oxycontin can be insufflated and injected, one of the main reasons that it has hit the US so hard.

You would be stuffed doing that with Endone pills, which are predominantly limited to oral use and although the oral bioavailability is very high, common sense points to it being less addictive with recreational use.

Endone is nasty stuff..... Mav was prescribed it, and he was terrified by the effect it had on him. I cant see why people would get some sort of thrill out of feeling that way. But maybe I am just old hahaha

Opioids do stranges things.

Very complex substances in society, extremely interesting history and pharmacology. How could something so subtle cause such massive social, political and health problems.
