Just an observation. What are your thoughts? |

We need a rebirth of adventure/puzzle games... that will set them straight.
I remember completing games like Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Zork Nemesis (only recently completed the originals) and The Dig when I was 10 years old. I would like to see todays 10 year old gamer do that. They don't have the dedication to boot up a computer/console everyday for a solid month with no progress at all... without cheating. |

A less intelligent society? On what basis could you make such a claim? Was there some kind of national survey conducted?
Society/people are changing sure, but that's about as far as I can go on this. |

Yes, everyone is getting stupider. I blame cs, not one person in cs knows how to use their/there/they're and his/he's properly.

It's a big reason I have stopped playing MP games, however that's not to say if something worth playing got released I wouldn't give it a go.
Thats the other half of the problem. A damn high percentage of games being that have been churned out recently have been rushed lumps of s*** with countless problems from the get go. |

It's clearly true, society is dumber. In the future, the leaders will be these kids/teenagers. |

Was in a retail store today and seriously most people in there couldn't string together a sentance and looked a little bit slow? If correct English language usage is a determining factor in your view of someone's mental capabilities, you might want to take another look at yourself. Because I am pretty sure you mean sentence, not sentance. In fact if I were to rewrite it your sentence... I was in a retail store today and seriously, most of the people in there looked a little bit dull. I doubt they would have been able to string a sentence together. Please note, I don't view it as important I do however find it ironic that someone who does, is guilty of the same crime. |

Was it before lunchtime? Because any gamer who's in a store before lunchtime on a Saturday has either had only had a couple of hours sleep, or has not slept yet, so that would explain the slowness.

Wow, over critical responses...who would have thought it?
I'm not saying my english is perfect, hell it's far from it!! That's not the point of this thread I actually wrote this thread in about 20 seconds just before I went out last night, hence why the structure and grammar is a bit off. Firstly what is with the term gamer? A mother in the same store stated that "she had a gamer for a son and there was nothing she could do about it". It's not a full time job, it's hobby and a way to relax after a hard days work. Do today's youth not understand this concept. 22 year old uni students still getting their mummy's to buy them computer games is a bit off don't you think. In response to the pun about my QGL nickname, common your name is "Strange Rash". How is that any smarter then me using g0atland3r. Using a nick name on the internet is to hide your real indentity isn't it? It has no meaning it's just a word I type in to logon this website. Also another thing......why do they think they can grow moustache's last edited by g0atland3r at 07:46:23 10/Jun/07 |

I think your looking through the world through some sort of dumb goggles or something. People are still 'normal'.
I screw up my sentences all the time when talking to people. Sometimes missing words or using the wrong word such as did over didn't. Most people dont seem to notice, or more to the point, care. They happily fix it up in their heads and the conversation roles on. |

I just don't get the overly critical response. Yes, the world is getting f***ing dumber. No, I don't have any evidence to back that up. I forsee Idiocracy becoming an actual reality in 500 years and yes it is a f***ing hilarious film.
The capability to read and write correctly is already 'for fags'. Use the word 'unacceptable' instead of 's***' and you talk like a fag. It's small steps like this that lead us into an inevitable downward spiral towards mental retardation not through genetics, but through choice. People are choosing to act and become more retarded. Then again CS is not a case study. |

trying to think objectively here for a minute - because we all believe we were rocket scientists as kids
i have a lot of confidence in the kids today sure, some emo c***s think that proper english is 'for fags' but they will grow out of it just like the slackers of our day did. otherwise, if there is any kind of justice in the world they will flip burgers while their smarter counterparts get all the sweet jobs |

I just assume that most people are dumber than me... coming to this forum maintains that belief quite nicely;)
I LOLOTI'ed the other day when I was in a store and asked the store person to call me when they got more copies of a particular DVD - he wrote on a note, "CALL WEN DVD ARIVES"... |

I'll admit, my spelling has gone right to hell since playing video games. I used to be an excellent speller back in primary school, then in high school it started getting worse and now even some simple words I'm like what the f***?
Maybe it was caused by video games, or maybe it was a stroke? I do tend to slur words a bit & sound like I'm drunk most of the time? |

Using a nick name on the internet is to hide your real identity isn't it? I think I failed that one. Also, as one of the younger generation, there is a lot more retarded f***s out there. But there's still enough of us normal people to maintain the status quo. You just don't see us as much because of the bulls*** sensationalist media. |
