You can't expect young people to watch Dr Who, can you? I mean their parents used to watch that... how 'old'.

It needs to be hip and young.

Cool bit of info
The title "Torchwood" is an anagram of "Doctor Who".

Torchwood is pretty good, its not much like Doctor Who, and never really crosses over with Doctor Who, though it does refer to some stuff that happened in season 2 of the new Doctor Who, and Captain Jack is a character who was in the first season of it. It is a lot more like the X-files than Doctor Who, except it has more sex and violence than the x-files ever did.

Never got into Torchwood. All the main characters were pompus bastards and the guy playing Captain Jack sounded too much lke he was Dr Who, which he wasn't and had no connection to. Here's one piece of advice when running some stat-of-the-art covert op. Don't talk about it as if it's all some matter of fact motherf***ing operation with smart-ass snide comments. You're obviously here to stop unwanted ET's from coming into contact with humans so f***ing act like it you pieces of s***!!!

The only cross over bit would be in the last 30 Seconds of the last epp of the season. And even then you dont actually see anything, just hear it.

Similar feelings to Rev, Top Secret organisations shouldn't have employee's that are that messed in the head.

Get your hand off it. The new version of Doctor Who is a ratings hit in the UK (does well over here as well), it's not just oldies watching it.

^ Thats what worries me.

I thought the new Dr Who was one of the most cringeworthy pieces of vile maggot filled excrement ever to be associated with the Dr Who universe.

Whilst the old series was lame due mostly to very VERY marginal budgets granted to it by the BBC. This resulted in laughably crappy sets and monsters made out of glad wrap, shoelaces, cardboard and tin cans.
It was a credit to the writers and actors (Tom Baker in particular) to turn up to this kind of s*** every day and 'sell' Dr Who to an audience.

However the new series was born into a new era with affordable CGI special effects and modern film making techniques. Instead of keeping with the creative, suspense filled storylines, the new producers try to make the new Dr Who 'hip' and 'pc' and they fail miserabley. It's no wonder Christoper Eccelston got out of it with his reputation still intact.

Here are some reasons the new series sucked balls-:

1. The first episode had plactic wheelie bins eating ppl! I kid you not.
2. They played Britney Spears music during the Dalek epidsode. yes BRITNEY f***ING SPEARS IN A DR WHO EPISODE!
3. The most overtly Politcally Correct series ever with the Token Black guy, The Token Gay guy, The Token Old guy etc etc

I could go on forever but I'd better stop ranting before I burst a blood vessel.

BUT BRITNEY f***ING SPEARS!!!!

Actually, Christopher Eccleston got out of it because he didn't want to be typecast.

Also, your reasons are dumb.

Edit: And a bit of googling and fact checking shows that the story in the Sun is unconfirmed rumour and that its more likely that Russell Davies is intending to move on at the end of Season 4, rather than the showing being axed entirely.

A quote from another from the BBC in another UK news source, Mediaguardian.co.uk says:

"Russell has always said that he wouldn't be with the show forever and he has made no secret that the hours are quite exhausting... But there isn't any way it would be axed even if he left. He loves the show and he does feel that maybe it would benefit from some new blood."

The MediaGuardian states that "if Mr Davies does leave Doctor Who, the BBC will want to keep such a popular show going by bringing in a new executive producer to take over his creative responsibilities."

Of course, thats an unconfirmed quote too, so take it with a grain of salt, but it sounds more likely to me. Seems ridiculous that they'd axe their highest rating show just because the guy who's producing it wants to move onto something else.

bah bulls***. a tv channel isnt going to axe and show unless its getting s*** ratings. they arent gonna get rid of a good thing.

So? They'll just hire a new production team.

Thanks Khel, your discussion skills have inspired me.

I didn't realise with such indepth analysis as "Its crap because one episode used a Britney Spears song" you were looking for a discussion.

I realise that. But that doesn't change the fact the production team and not the TV channel want to axe a show when it's ratings are good, which is what ravn0s was making a point of.

The article's full of it anyway, the show isn't going anywhere.

Well my gaydar is broken.

I didn't pick it!

Spent some time in Los Angeles chasing movie and TV roles. Made final three in casting for role of Will in Will and Grace (1998) - demanded an explanation and found he had been rejected as "not gay enough".

He was joined in a civil partnership (a commitment ceremony which accords gay couples many of the same rights as heterosexual couples in the UK) to his longtime love, architect Scott Gill, at a ceremony in Cardiff Bay on Wednesday 27 December 2006.

How dissapointing!

He also played Jack Harkness in the Dr Who series as well

Its the same character in both. Hes back in Doctor Who at the moment in the last three episodes of season 3 (which f***ing rock). And then I'd assume, season 2 of Torchwood will start.

Yeah, but I didn't know that Torchwood was based on an already built character. I thought it was just a tack on

Yeah, Torchwood cropped up a number of times throughout season 2 of Doctor Who, but Jack wasn't in control of it then, he rebuilt it after it got wiped out at the end of season 2 (that 'Battle of Canary Wharf' that gets mentioned a few times here and there was the season 2 doctor who finale that wiped out the old Torchwood).
