Topic: Wii virtual console - 1000 games/hour

Nintendo announced recently that since the launch of the Wii and the online store where you pay to download classic games to play on the Wii, they have sold more than 4.7 million games, at a rate of over 1000 games an hour.

Taken from aussie-nintendo.com

Considering not every Wii owner is on the net, and not every wii owner would even bother buying classic games, that seems like an amazing number, and a huge cash-cow for Nintendo. promoted forum item

Is there some kind of list you can read to see all the available games you can download? Im looking at Nintendo dot com and I can't find any links unless they've named it something too funky for me to understand.

Cool, thanx nats.

Twas hoping you could get that awesome Mega Drive game called Landstalker but it's not listed. One of the best RPG's back in the day.

Who was it made buy? If they are owned buy sony or microsoft now, it'll be unlikely you'll see it.
Otherwise, give it time. The gaming greats will all make it to the vitual channel eventually. There is just too much easy money to be made.

Its less than one game per console isn't it?

Also hows it compare to the xbox arcade?

I don't know, but i do not that you have to have your wii internet connected to buy these games, and there's only a 30-40% connectivity rate, so if you are right that's 3 games per connected console + have to factor in people like me who are net connected and haven't bought one.

Yeah there is that, but if you also take into account people who connect their wiis to the net are more "hadcore" it probably evens out.
But i guess he flipside to that is the really hardcore guys with net connections would have all the games as roms anyway.. I guess the only thing we can gather from this is that 1000 games/hour is a nice press release for nintendo.

thread revival ftw+

I just got a wii and have been playing the emulated games more than the real games
I noticed that on the day I purchased my wii, wave race 64 (my fav n64 game of all time) was released for the wii, yet I can't find it in my list, so I assume its in the states first then Australia..

how long till that filters down to .au, anyone have a rough idea?
I would have bought a wii just for the emulated games, 007 & wave race on n64 were the shiznit

When I first got my 64, the only game I had for months was Wave-race... definetely awesome.

I remember when I first saw the water effects :O and the amazing physics :O and the shortcuts by launching really high then diving (only some laps though, because the TIDES CHANGED!) :O:O:O

Almost totally unrelated, there has been another update released a few days ago, bringing the Wii to Version 3.0E.
The update adds a digital clock to the Wii's main menu and makes changes to the Forecast and News channel icons.
Also USB keyboard support has been added to various channels and the message board. Unfortunately the Internet channel doesn't support USB keyboards yet, as a patch likely needs to be written by Opera.
Finally, the shop channel has been overhauled.
Download it now.

EDIT: The changes to News Channel mean CNN style updates scroll by the channel's icon, and news bulletins are now accompanied by images if the bulletin includes them.
The Forecast Channel's icon now displays a cartoon representation of the current weather, just in case your not sitting next to a window.
Accumulated game and channel time is now recorded as "Toady's Accomplishments"; white memos rather then the old yellow style that wasn't differentiated from regular messages. This also applies to all channel logs from prior to the update, and will not trigger a message icon in the calender.

Also, let it be noted, that prior to installing the update you will recieve a message from Nintendo, explaining that, installing the update will likely render "Modded" Wii's, "Bricked".

I couldn't see a reason to pay them $7.50 to download opera?
I mean I spent $600-700 already on the wii and I've had it for 2 days, but I have a laptop sitting next to me at all times on the same wireless network as the wii, whats the point?

Thats why you should have bought your Wii earlier, if you downloaded it before June it was free.

Don't feel as though your missing out on anything. Until you can use keyboards, it is painfully slow touch typing in addresses with the wiimote. Don't even talk about posting messages on blogs or forums.
The browser lacks tabs so that means only one window at a time, period. The resolution of most TVs is so abysmal, reading means zooming right in and scrolling back and forth to read articles.
Flash games while infinitely more fun with a "light gun", grind almost to a halt if the movie is too complex.
The Internet Channel also lacks the ability to copy and paste text, so if someone hasn't properly linked a link, to bad. Also makes quoting a pain.
I could go on.

On the other side, the Wii and the browser boots much faster than the average computer, so if your in a hurry or just can't be bothered starting the PC, it's a breeze to quickly look up something on google or similar. Again, flash games a much more fun with a gun rather than a mouse.
Also, surfing from the couch rocks.

Don't pay for it, at least for the time being. Nintendo has stated that the browser is accessible by games themselves, so that potentially, future games can incorporate the browser into the interface allowing users to peruse the game's website, rankings and player profiles without returning to the Wii menu and booting the Channel.

I don't use the browser on the Wii much, but its handy for watching youtube or google video videos on your TV.

Because you, lynx in #16 said

So understandably its confusing what your point is ? its quite obvious that keyboard support for the browser is coming (probably forcing the people who got it for free to pay for it)

ps. its a console, use internet on your pc

yeah, see I've got a laptop w/ svideo & xbox with xbmc hooked up to my projector also, thus I can't see why I'd need a browser etc

also on the projector note, given that my wii is sitting next to the projector, I had to put the infrared bar under the projection.. which was gay because its not very long

so apparently you can scrap the bar and just put two candles under your projection, in a nice centered fashion and that has the exact same affect of the bar

There are a number of companies that have released wireless sensor bars onto the market. The best are probably the "Nyko Wireless Sensor Bar", for those who don't mind more batteries, and the "Nextronics Wii Sensor Bar" which comes with an AC adapter.

even better than waverace

BIG BRAIN ACADEMY ON WII

get it now (if its out)

also, resident evil 4 looks suprisingly pretty on the wii

controls are a bit unwieldy

never heard of the first game, however resident evil sounds cool
I got scarface for my birthday last week from my gf's mum, she was horrified when she saw how particularly violent it is - but teq loves it

when you build up enough 'balls' you can go into a violent rage and just mow mother f***ers down, it seriously kicks ass - even though the controls are a bitch to get used to

Big Brain academy is like the Mind Games on the DC

its the simple brain puzzles and how many you can get through in an alotted time

awesome fun, and certainly does give the brain a work out;

cant wait for our next IT Wii nite playing it and bowling with 4 player goodness!

I might have to give it a go
have you played the tank game on the free disc you get when you buy a second controller? (wii play or wii games etc)

it has fishing / cow racing / shooting games etc but none even come close to the tank game
if/when they make a full version of that, I'll be all over it

ping pong's wicked hard when you add in 360 degree rotations
wii tanks doesn't require a second player either

can you play any of the standard games you get on wii play / wii sports over the interwebs?
I'd be down for that, even some lan action maybe
