Well the Today show people started talking about this.
The whole conversation was like "Some seriously disturbed mental case has created a game" "I sure do hope he gets psychological help" "We have a psychologist to help us with this crazed individual.." psychologist: "This guy certainly is a wackjob, I wonder what the authorities think" It was so f***ing narrow minded, all because this flash game was set in VA Tech. Personally I think people who make a joke or game or anything about a major tragic event are being timely and have balls and I love them. The guy demanded 1000 bucks to take the game down too, see he isn't crazy... |

This is just like the guy who made the Counter-Strike Source map of his school. The s*** is very relevant to come out now, it's like a song or movie or piece of journalism that draws attention to something. People react like "well if he make a game like this - imagine what else he is capable of!" but I really do think it's brilliant people make things in response to things that are going on in the world.

i'd hardly call him a game developer, he is an out of work bum living off mummies money from the US
p.s. its like c64 or amiga gfx - i guess it was intentional but yeh, whatever the world needs to get the f*** over itself and learn to laugh more - lets not worry about the thousands of civilian lives lost in all the 'wars' the US is currently 'running' bleh whatever |

he's no pioneer or anything like that, just an oportunist. i don't think it really reflects on his mental state at all either.
Oh, and he's not a game developer. |

Like all attention whores, he should just be ignored.
Like all stupid things that make money off attention whores, the Today Show has just brought this thing to the attention of millions of more people that would otherwise have lived in blissful ignorance of it! |

I guess if you call this attention whoring, I'd argue that any journalistic, political, or artistic response to world events is attention whoring...

I think it depends on if it is drawing people's attention to it to highlight problems or to make a quick buck/gain notoriety using shock value. I think there is too much of the latter especially in the media.

heh well I wouldn't even know about this if it wasn't for Today show and B105 going on and on about it.
When Princess Diana died I made a website about her with all the nasty pictures and jokes I could find. I really didn't like her, though I guess the site was for the attention, but there really is something phenomenol to behold about the people who then try to silence you and those that stick up for you when you go out and do something controversial. I love seeing those situations I guess, it's a test of freedom for the individual versus tribal taboo etc... |

I love seeing those situations I guess, it's a test of freedom for the individual versus tribal taboo etc Theres nothing deep and meaningful about being deliberately offensive/shocking. Its pure attention whoring. Theres nothing controversial about making a website full of Princess Diana jokes and nasty pictures, you're not challenging people's perceptions, you're not making a difference, you're not establishing your individuality, you're just adding +1 to the number of dumb websites on the internet. |

Theres nothing deep and meaningful about being deliberately offensive/shocking.At the same point Khel, you never want to violate our freedom of speech. Just like a recent court case regarding "talking" about kiddie porn. Yes it's f***ed, yes it's sickening and these people will most probably act on their "words" in the future... but there's a fine line, everybody should be allowed their freedom of speech regardless. |

Heh they just did a section on this on Hack; I actually got interviewed for it but they ended up not including my comments - they actually ended up interviewing the maker of the game (who is an American, by his accent) so I assume they ditched me for him (or else my comments were too non-controversial; I basically said the 100% exact opposite of what most of the other people said - I should have explicitly used the term "attention whore" I guess).

They interviewed these so called "experts" asking what they though about the game and if it should be removed from the net, and they all obviously said yes.
By what I thought was pretty dumb that even the "computer expert" said yes they should remove it from the net, yet no one said, "well you cant realy remove something from the net", which i though would have been pretty obvious. They even asked some police dude if the australian government should block the game. For one, the australian government realy cant make the decision if its hosted overseas, secondly I have no doubt that its been put up on several website now and would be imposible to remove. Sure the guy made a tasteless game, but the media by bringing it to light have given the game and its creator the notoriaty and pretty much guaranteed that it wont being going away too easisly. If no one made a big deal about it, it would have just sat on the one website it was originaly put and probably even disapeared without a trace after a while. Now, I can guarantee that this game will be mentioned by every jounalist doing an article on violent crimes and video games for years to come. And good on me for giving it some more attention. |
