Activision just shot through a new Enemy Territory: Quake Wars video which features an interview with Paul Wedgewood from Splash Damage and Kevin Cloud from id Software, plus some hot new footage. We've also got the finalised box art, if you roll that way.

Terrain and vegetation looks somewhat blocky and previous-generation.

Otherwise, I can't wait for the gameplay.

Being built on the Doom3 engine Psycho, it'll be OpenGL Psycho, doubt you need DirectX 10 specific hardware. I'm using an 8800GTS right now and they're damn good cards.

I am looking forward to Enemy Territory: Doom Wars more than EW:QW.

Quake Wars is being ported to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 by Z-Axis and Nerve Software respectively. I imagine the retail dates will be signifcantly after the PC versions and I would wager that, for a seasoned PC gamer, the gameplay experience will not be as enjoyable. Unlike other multiplatform FPS', this one is definitely a PC game first. Stop being a fanboy.

There's nothing viable about consoles for FPS games anyway. Which is a real pity, because it'd be f***ing awesome if PC owners and Xbox 360 owners and PlayStation 3 owners could all play online together.

Just so you could teach those hand controller duds a lesson in FPS.

Shadowrun will let you do this but only on Vista and windows live
No deal...

it would be good, great to get a final answer on that old internet war: mouse/keyboard vs. controller FPS gamers

Anyway, ET:QW is probably gonna be competitive, so scripting, configs, comp-mods (ala ET-Pro) are all gonna be important. So will be server side cvar settings, etc. Good luck managing all that on a console.

Anyone who claims that a hand controller could beat a mouse and keyboard is an idiot.

However to play ET:QW with decent visuals I'd probably have to spend $1000 so therefore the PC isn't viable platform for me :(

This is true, but there is certainly no shortage of idiots on the internet.

there were c***s playing quake 2 who never learnt to use a mouse and did surprisingly ok (on public servers though)

I was reading through the shadowrun forums and it turns out that a 'feature' has been created to keep the playing field even for controller vs mouse/keyboard. This feature is to introduce a decrease in accuracy in proportion to the mouse movement. Apparently this is to even out the playing field because play testing was finding that controller users where getting owned. hehehe.

I tried asking a notebook/gaming forum.. Since you brought up OpenGL,i'd like to ask you-If I was using a Mac.. do you think ID Software wouldn't allow me to program games (on ID Tech 5?) without DirectX 10 hardware??

I might buy a MacBook with an ATI card instead

I suspect as long as they're using opengl and as long as they keep to their traditions, if you're a paying engine licensee you'll be able to do whatever the hell you want
