I've just made a pretty significant change to the back end of the forums (also your mums) so let me know if you see any weird behaviour. Thanks.

It took about 20 seconds to load a page about 15 minutes ago but now that I came back to my pc for another look it's going super duper fast.

Lotsa cookies?

*Edit* When posted my page just hung for ages and wouldnt return to the thread till I clicked to do so.

What changes have you made trog? It still feels the same...and speed wise it fluctuates. For example, 10 minutes ago we couldn't get anything to load, whilst now they load fine. However, there is not a marked difference in speed that we are noticing.

Trog, general consensus between Sue and myself is that there is a speed difference overall, so you are achieving your obvious goal. Also, if speed is the target on this one, are you open to some feedback on code?

That's not what your mum says while I'm gazing at the top of her head. Actually she might be saying that, but most of what she says is pretty indistinct.

If speed is a concern, make the forums red, everyone knows red is faster !

there was an informal competition a while ago to see who could get the most consecutive posts in different threads in the shortest amount of time. While some people though it was a bit spammy and detracted from the forum, awards were given out to the winners called Post Limits - it'd be worth going for a run through some threads, particularly old ones, see if you can beat any records, you basically run through threads posting comments to try and get the whole root of the forum last updated by you.

NOTE: it doesn't count if you do it in non-peak usage time though, must be between 5pm and midnight - if you can only get like top 10 threads at 4am on a wednesday it doesn't count.

The difference is its now using some caching stuff that was written a while back and broken, it seems, slightly less of a while back. So theoretically it should be a little faster.
