Peter, Al and Dr Tim emailed me to congratulate me on my latest green project. Finally hooked up my water tank (5000L). It's been a ongoing project for the last few months. Just need to attach it to the laundry tap. * shakes fist at sky * "owned!" http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/773/p1010224vr7.jpg http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/3374/p1010226gh2.jpg http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/386/p1010228ni3.jpg |

what are you planning on using the water for?
Grey water is your friend as well, no need for rain. |

yeah I rekon it'd be expensive... that's the only downside, the costs associated with attempting to be 'green'

How long does a Tank last?
If your planning to be in the same house a long time. How much Water-money does it save? |

A tank, especially undercover like that one, would last for ages.
Not only will it decrease your town water usage and its assiciated costs, the main advantage that I can see is that you can water what you want when you want. So if you like a play in the garden and like to keep your surrounds looking good, they are a good idea. You can get up to $1,000 rebate per household, so that helps with the intial cost. Water is about $0.91 per 1,000 litres. So a 5,000 litre tank like that one would hold about $4.55 worth of town water. While they may seem bugger all, if you add up all the times in its usable life that it would be filled up and emptied, it would would start to add up. |

You won't pay it off with savings, but your doing your bit to prevent a water crisis.
We got a 2000L tank delivered last week. We were told there would be a 12 week delay on it's delivery, but fast forward 1 1/2 weeks and found it in the yard when we came home. Can't get rebates on it because the council required it be +5000L, and the state rebate is only a $200 rebate covering just plumbing. We put in the plumbing and it was only $50. No free cash The sprinkle we got today wasn't enough to wet the paves, but the roof caught 20 liters of water. This thing will fill in one storm by the looks of it. |

nice illegal plumbing br0 All the plumbing is legal, I have a mate who is a plumber. total cost please? The tank was $975, the crusher dust base cost about $120, leaf guard $50, first-flush diverter $80, pressure pump $300. I havent got a bill off my mate for the rest yet. State Govt rebate is $1000 and council rebate $500. also, where is your run off/overflow? http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/2707/tankzu1.jpg what are you planning on using the water for? thirsty backyard, and I can wash my car at home for the first time in about a yr. http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/1825/byyi9.jpg How long does a Tank last? It's plastic! Won't rust, won't biodegrade either. |

most tanks will last upwards od 25 years most come with a warranty.
On the rebate subject if you are going to be getting a water tank i would advise getting it soon because the goverment is going to get rid of the water rebate soon. |

we looked at getting a tank put in, but the plumber who quoted it for us, pretty much talked us out of it
slab laying, bobcats for digging holes for runoff/overflow it was gonna cost a fortune mite have another crack at it soonish |
