NO, this isn't the arctic circle.
If you want an extra hour of light in the arvo flex your hours back one, not time itself. |

Residents draw to the attention of relevant South-East Queensland Councils that for five months of the year Queensland is an hour behind five other states and territories including those along the eastern seaboard, because of the introduction of daylight savings in those states and territories. We're not behind, they're ahead, dirty cheats! |

Its at the point where having more daylight in summer etc is irrelevant.
The pure and simple reason for us to take on DLS is just because NSW does. Being so close to the border is just a pain in the ass. I worked on the southern end of the gold coast, over the border, so our office was in NSW. You have no idea how many meetings get f***ed up because people coming from QLD just asume that we wouldnt follow daylight savings, even though we were operating out of NSW. At this point its just a convenience thing. My family is in NSW, I hate thinking to call my mum for something at like 8.30-9 my time, and then not being able to because its an hour later and shell already be in bed etc. Nothing but trouble. |

We need catchup like in need for speed. Start an hour later and catch up to 5 by the time they hit it. I could live with 7 hour work days.

I'm not in favour of either gaylight savings or the status quo
Just permanently add one hour onto the time. I've never understood daylight savings time if having the extra hour during winter as well doesn't hurt, why not just permanently make that your time zone. Seriously though just go to work earlier. Pete has been more receptive lately to the idea of DST, but only for south-east Queensland because the vastly greater portion of the State (area wise) has quite sensibly said no to DST. |

The constant whinging, crying and tanties thrown from both sides of the debate is more annoying than the issue itself.
Either f***ing change it or don't, I couldn't give a rats ass either way as long as people would shut up about it. |

someone before hit the nail on the head. its brisbane being so close to the border. coming from cairns, or from anywhere north of rocky, for that matter, makes DLS a waste of time. guess ill see how i feel about it, in a few years time thou.

All i can say is that, it now makes sense why qld has "the backwards state" printed on there number plates. that's all you can say? you should probably try & expand your vocabulary & maybe you will start posting something worth reading. coz car number plates really dont have anything to do with dlst. |

Daylight Saving: not interested, don't care and doesn't affect me in the slightest.
We already have several different time zones in Australia, DST won't change that. If we can manage with SA, NT and WA on different times, one more won't matter. The USA has many different timezones and doesn't fall over from it, Europe the same and Asia the same, so why all the fuss. As far as I am concerned there is enough sun in Summer for QLD to enjoy. If you feel there isn't there is always a bus going South. |

As far as I am concerned there is enough sun in Summer for QLD to enjoy. Seriously? I was in Perth and Melbourne over the past few months and the sun didn't go down until at least 8pm. I'd love to be able to get home at night (typically 6.30 thanks to our roads being f***ed every peak hour) and be able to take the dogs for a walk while there's still light. Plus if there's more day light there's less evil light bulbs in use so we all win by consuming less electricity. Do it for the environment folks! |

If you've got an air con you pretty much use it whenever your home during a Brisbane summer whether it's daylight or not.
Whereas an extra hour of day light means an hour less of light bulb usage which = win. |

If you've got an air con you pretty much use it whenever your home during a Brisbane summer whether it's daylight or not. I have 2 and we only used it on a couple of occasions as we are more than aware of the cost impact on our power bill. This was one of the mildest summers I have ever known in my 46 years of living in Brisbane, so I can't see why you would have needed it as often as you claim. There are also things such as insulation and housing design incorporating airflow maximisation and aspect utilisation that hugely reduces the necessity of air conditioning being used constantly when at home. My homes built with these in mind and we probably only use the air conditioner no more than a dozen times a year including using it for heating in winter. |

If you thought this wasn't one of the mildest summers then you definitely need air-conditioning. The average maximum summer temperature for Brisbane was 28.9C , 0.4C below average. Yeah I reckon Some Fat Bastard is right about being mild summer. There were a couple of days there where it's hotter than hell but IMO in general it seems milder. I remembered back in the early 90's in summer it's hot and humid for nearly 2-3 weeks in total.
Then again it could be be just me.... |

Agreeing to the mild summer, just a couple years ago I remember it already being mid 30's in mid November and it pretty much never let up all summer. Have we even had a real heat wave at all this summer?

How many days this summer were over 35 degrees? Bugger all.I'm not trying to say it was one of the hottest summers which is what you're implying by asking that question - I'm just saying it definitely wasn't one of the mildest in the past 15 years. Incidentally, that's what I meant when I said "definitely not one of the mildest summers in the last 15 years I've been here" If you thought this wasn't one of the mildest summers then you definitely need air-conditioning.congrats, that's the point |

I support from Wellington to Beijing, think its like 5 or 6 timezones and it definetly is painful with DST.
Luckily my employer isn't a knobhead and lets me do my own hours provided the job is done. Still doesn't stop me wanting DST though. |

I don't like taking my morning jog in the Dark. In Brisbane? During Summer, you'd have to get REAL early to get a morning jog in the dark...even *with* DST :) I don't really get the usefulness of DST in this day and age - the energy consumption reasoning has been softened with the introduction of energy efficient lightbulbs (the fluoro ones), and the abundance of A/C installations, which run during hot times...sometimes even 24/7. And of course, we're all working longer hours, running computers, and turning on the lights longer in Winter. Are we really saving that much energy? On the recreational front (the weakest, selfish argument), DST "works" in temperate zones - zones outside of the Tropics of Capricorn and Cancer. Of course, QLD happens to be within the Tropic of Capricorn. Hence, it will NEVER make sense to have DST in that area without a split-zone. Aside from business, there's also the argument that it's an easier life for Tourists, not having to switch their watches when flying between QLD and NSW or VIC. But again, weak argument. In the end, QLD will inevitably have DST. It'll be a nuisance, but it'll happen, thanks to NSW and VIC. |

Why wouldnt anyone want more daylight after work? i can think of several scenarios where people wouldn't want more daylight after work without too much effort. a sunburnt lifesaver would be just one example. :D time is a concept. adjust your heads. referendum or stfu. |

I have never understood daylight saving.
In Melbourne with daylight saving, it wasn't getting dark until 10-10.30 at night. I think the other states should stop doing it. |

i don't understand mooby's post... the uk is gonna permanantly change it's timezone? from gmt to what? & why? i can't see how the uk changing it's timezone would 'fall into line with the rest of europe' when not all of europe is in the same timezone.

I thought the reason why we don't have daylight saving was so guys don't get an erection on the bus on the way to work in the morning?
