I'm getting my first batch of digital photos printed in, like, years - I'm wondering as they're like 4:3 aspect ratio, should I crop them so they fit better on the 6" (or whatever the default size is)? Or will the printers (prolly HN, they have a 15c/print dealie atm) just crop them to suit?

My other half takes her photography seriously; and usually does all post editing before going to get them printed out, including changing the size to the print dimensions she's going to use.
Most printers will print 6x4 photos; but some have some strange dimensions (theres one thats like 5.25x3 or something - it pays to check before hand and modify your files accordingly or else you could have really poorly cropped photos (once it goes thru the machine if there is any cropping it just automatically happens) Also; the HN printers are pretty god-awful; so i'd recommend taking advantage of their 15c rate only for mass productions - if you've got a photo that you want to put in a frame or on display or something like that; go to a proper photo hut. After all, lets face facts - the HN monkies are just kids who begrudgingly do the work requested; they couldnt be bothered with things like making sure colour temperatures are still accurate or what not. Generally photo-huts are owned/operated by photo nerds and you get much better (altho more expensive) results. I've NFI what the good ones in brizvegas are but im sure somebody will know. |

I don't know how the commercial places do it but when I print my own photos the software or my printer automatically crops them to fit on the paper. However if your main focus isn't exacly in the middle or there's something on one side you'd like to keep and want to make sure it isn't copped you should probably crop it to fit yourself first.

The first batch I ever did was at Rabbit Photos and I was really happy with the quality. |

we do 6" x 4.5" prints for like 2p or something. thats the aspect ratio u need for compact digital cams.
dig slrs are in 35mm format so they fit on a 6x4. |
