EDIT - see below!

Hi all,

I have an HDTV file (that I of course shot on my HD camcorder) and now I want to play it on my xbox using xbox media player.

When I use SD .avi files it works fine, but this pesky HDTV .avi file only gives me the sound. I suspect because I don't have an HDTV!

so how would I go about re-encoding the file to to a standard .avi or any othr format that will play on the xbox?

very important file this one.

I guess I could install XBMC on my xbox and get with the times, but it seems like a massive amount of effort. I would have no idea how to compile it.

i have discovered the problem.

it will play files with a video sample size of 12 bit, but not the 24 bit.

any idea how to allow it to play 24 bit files, or convert the 24 bit files to 12 bit?
