I can see so many problems with this. How accurate is this testing? Will there be the anomaly of a person getting done even though the last time he did drugs was like months ago? Cbf reading article

Wouldn't all opioids show up on the test? Are they going to bar people from driving on something as simple as codeine?

and then you come down...and your f***ed :Pplus the article says it only shows amphetamine use if it is within 5 hours... soooo the come down wouldnt show up. Same with weed. omgs, after smoking and sitting around bent as for 2hrs watching tv Ill head home and not get caught as well? I dont understand how these tests are usefull if you could still be under the influence but not have it show up. |

If it's as stringent as alcohol testing, then it shouldn't be a major hassle for the druggies. 2hrs is nothing anyway.

Maybe it is just me but I rarely see any RBT's now. Besides form a gang, take drugs and go bash people on trains it is much fun. I reckon you just have to be unlucky to get pulled over fullstop. In the years I have been driving been through 4 RBT's, that is less then 1 per 2 years. This blitz campaign is just all smoke and mirrors.

now this thread resembles ground zero it's a little less stupid. If you're going to post idiot comments like "omg this is stupid" then at least try to defend them, even though that'd be pretty much impossible and you'll probably end up making yourself sound like an asshat as you try to argue that people should be allowed to drive when they're under the influence of drugs.

1. Drink driving and you a dumbass, oh I'll be right attitude doesn't cut it with me after having a mate killed by a DD at 5.30pm on a Friday. The idiot ran a red light on .07 killing my mate and f***ing himself up. That was 20 years ago and I never DD, not because I miss my mate because I do, but the other driver not only f***ed his life but hard problems coming to grips with killing somone and having to go to jail.
2. Drugs affect your perception just like alcohol, thats why people take them, argue all you want I've taken most of the popular party drugs from my era. 3. Should also include sobriety test if some form of intoxication (including percription drugs). Yes they do it in the states, and yes it is subjective but it is very affective in determining someones ability to operate a vechicle. Besides if your smashed and your IQ is less than the average Americian, you don't deserve to be on the road! 4. Until law reform decriminalizing drug use, you are breaking the law, and it is the poice's job to enforce these laws. Like it or not, it is not their job to pick and choose which laws to enforce, it is their job to enforce all laws. 5. Like most popular law, if its not revenue raising or vote gaining it would have been ignored. |

2. Drugs affect your perception just like alcohol, thats why people take them, argue all you want I've taken most of the popular party drugs from my era. Well I guess if you took them all at once it would be a bit like being drunk. :D I don't believe drugged driving is a problem on roads, so I disagree with tax money being put into this program. They would be better off with a few more RBTs instead. Until law reform decriminalizing drug use, you are breaking the law, and it is the poice's job to enforce these laws. Like it or not, it is not their job to pick and choose which laws to enforce, it is their job to enforce all laws. There's a difference between a cop finding some pot and following protocol, and $$$$s being put into a bulls*** project that turns traffic cops into roadside chemists. |

do we really want thousands of stoners out on the road with the thousands of drink drivers? anything which gets rid of them all is a service to society.
just let them stone out at home on the couch ffs. |

I know your comment is probably in jest, but I should say I have no problem with stoners driving, there is nothing to suggest they are s*** at driving, and there is plenty to suggest alcohol impairs your motor skills and vision. So I see a big difference there. It shouldn't be about whether you like stoners or not.

It's a political stunt. No different to drug dogs in NSW. Check this article. 10,000 stopped and searched in public for suspicion of possession of illegal drugs, 19 successfully charged. To repeat that's ten thousand people harrassed for 19 found to be doing wrong. I don't know statistics but that seems to be insignificant to the point where picking people based on the 3rd letter in their surname would have a higher success rate. But don't worry, to prove it is a useful program and not just a political stunt see this bit on the minister responsible:
Commenting after the report’s release, acting NSW Police Minister David Campbell said the dogs were a valuable tool and police would continue using them.Sorry, i meant to prove it is a worthless political stunt. |

^^ you should change you name Idol to Idiot...
There are 100's of studies that show that drugs legal and illegal effect your ability to respond, and reduce reaction time. Not only that but there are 100's of studies that show using a phone reduces your ability to react. As for stoners driving no way, same goes for medicated legally, idiots that drive while on precription drugs, do them as well. If I kill someone with a gun I go away for life, if I do it with a car while breaking the f***en law I'd be lucky to go to jail these days. f*** that s*** I say, if you injure or kill someone on the road they or their family should have the right to return the favor and run you down in your own car. Same goes for Bullbars, some idiot over here in WA got of free, free from going to jail, Free to continue living while running down a pedestrian on a crossing at 30km/h with a bullbar. Mind you they where sober, so I'd hate to imagine the carnage if they where stoned or something! |

Mind you they where sober, so I'd hate to imagine the carnage if they where stoned or something! What kind of a hysteric thing to say is that? You have made no link with cannabis use and negligent driving, the only example you gave was of a sober person and then you tack on "imagine if they were high" on the end like we're just meant to *know* that will be worse?? I don't doubt there are drugs that impair driving, but marijuana isn't one of them, and I guarantee you that it is marijuana users who will be most affected by this. If I kill someone with a gun I go away for life, if I do it with a car while breaking the f***en law I'd be lucky to go to jail these days. f*** that s*** I say, if you injure or kill someone on the road they or their family should have the right to return the favor and run you down in your own car. This thread has nothing to do with anyone killing anyone. People aren't being tested after they cause an accident. They're being tested when they're driving normally. If all these stoners are supposedly crashing shouldn't that mean it's more fair to test suspects after a collision? No, because doing that would show no correlation between cannabis use and driving impairment. |

Is cannabis the only safe drug to use while driving, or can we use heroin and ecstacy too, Idol?
Is it safer to mix the drugs or just use them separately? |

Government funded "studies" aren't proof particularly when they do the experiments themselves and even get the cannabis itself from an anti-drug Government source. The other study didn't conclude that cannabis was dangerous, they just said they couldn't conclude that it wasn't.
Its effect on higher cognitive functions, for example divided attention tasks associated with driving, appear not to be as critical. |

from personal experience I drive quite retardedly when stoned. most of the time i'm going way too slow, i'll be going 40km/h and it feels like 100. marajuana f***s your perceptions up it's really not a good idea to drive while bent.

Alcohol is known to greatly diminish the ability to drive as the dosage goes up. We all know that and most of us have accepeted that. We can have a little bit and drive without a problem and if we have too much, around the .05 limit, we start becoming unsuitable to drive.
Evidence is pointing towards similar for Marijuana.
Taken from PubMed Article, Relationship between THC concentration in blood and impairment in apprehended drivers. There is plenty of information and data that supports the idea of THC making your driving skillz crap whilst under a strong enough influence, just like alcohol. As far as I know the swab test dosnt measure the concentration, does anyone know if it does? EDIT: Just to point out, that article was specificly researching Delta-9-THC, which is the most active ingredient in Mary Jane (cant spell :D). The concentrations of Delta-9-THC varies very widly across differnt strains of Marijuana and I think combustion has something to do with its formation and whatnot too. The end result is, the pyschomotor impairing ingrediant may be in high concentrations in one mans pot, while low in anothers. That could account some, for peoples various opinions about how it affects their driving. last edited by Tollaz0r! at 20:11:55 18/Sep/06 |

Haha Idol you're an idiot.
I assume when you say, "they're being tested when they're driving normally," you mean when they are stoned. You're argument is stupid because you could say the same thing of drunk drivers - don't test them unless they have an accident. The whole idea of it is to reduce the risk of accident occuring in the first place. I find that stoners always pick up little facts here and there and store information that they use to support their arguments. from personal experience I drive quite retardedly when stoned. most of the time i'm going way too slow, i'll be going 40km/h and it feels like 100. marajuana f***s your perceptions up it's really not a good idea to drive while bent. Hahahahahaha. One of my mates described to me the first time he drove WAAAAAAAAAYYYY bent. He was driving along normally but the guy behind him was right up his arse swerving and beeping all over the place. Needless to say it freaked him out so he sped up to try and lose him. The guys matched his pace and still seemed to be driving angry behind him. So my mate throws it through a corner into a side street without even lifting off the accelerator. He relaxes cause they guy takes off along the original street, but then he looked down and realised he'd been doing 5km/h!
