I have a network via a CAT-5 crossover cable with my PC in order to watch video files on my XBox. Everything was fine until I installed a
wireless router that operates an additional network for use with a laptop. After I set that up, the Xbox kept giving me errors along the lines of N/A status_object_not found. When I was setting up the wireless network I changed the LAN settings to do with the Xbox by mistake. After a bit of trial and error I found that I could get the Xbox working, the internet up and running and the wireless network stable. However after unplugging the XBox last night to swap TVs over I now cannot get the XBox network to work. I am getting the same error as before. I have the PC IP addy set to xxx.xxx.0.5 and the Xbox set to xxx.xxx.0.6. I have tried several different values as the last digit eg. 1 and 2, 2 and 3 and so on. Starngely these did not work, but for some reason 5 and 6 worked so I stuck with that. Perhaps I happened to restart at the right time (this type of trial and error approach seems to work at random, with no set workable pattern). The funny thing is, the XBox network was up and running fine just yesterday. I have tried restarting both machines several times, default gateway was set at xxx.xxx.0.1 and I reset to 000.000.0.0 Still nothing. Any suggestions? Does the default gateway need to be set to a specific value? Also do I need to enter a value for the DNS server? Also, occasionally the XBox will freeze when choosing video files from the menu. It will usually play two or three video files and then will require me to reset it. Is there a way around this? edit: formatting |

Are you running the Xbox into your PC or into your router now?
Default gateway is probably not important unless your connecting to the internets for something and DNS would be along the same lines. Do you connect to your PC via IP or name from the Xbox? |

Use your Wireless Router to share your internet and hand out IP addresses to all your PCs. Unless you have a really good reason to make them static, why bother? and if you need one static, make it static via the DHCP server on your router.

Ticman: Yeah XBox links directly to NIC via crossover cable.
Connect via IP usually. Eds: I don't need the Xbox to connect to the internet, just to the PC in order for the puter to stream videos. That's why I left it set up via LAN cable. It seemed to work fine before, although I did have a few problems initially. |

So you have 2 NICs in your PC, one going to the Router and one to the xbox?
I think if you can, put the xbox into the router, as it will mean its the center of the network and make life a whole lot easier. |

What Eds said, and set your Xbox to use DHCP.

What EDs said and get the latest xbmc
also make sure your network cable is fully choice(swap it over), as even the slightest shizzal will cause crazy network shizzal. |
