Speaking at the Games Convention in Leipzig, Bernd Diemer, senior game designer of Crytek, explained that next-generation consoles don't offer enough computational power to run Crysis, German publication Heise reported.

Although Crysis will support both current and the next version of DirectX, the developer claims that only DirectX 10 allows the game to run as it was intended by the developers because the next-generation DirectX API, which will ship along Windows Vista, allows more effects and more objects to be drawn on the screen with a smaller computational cost for the hardware.

Diemer explained that "next generation consoles like the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 do not offer the sufficient power" to assure the quality of gameplay Crytek demand for Crysis.

I've yet to see a game on xbox360 that would make buying the console worthwhile. By the time a decent game comes out for it I'm sure microsoft will release another console with enough power to handle this game though.

The ATI card in the 360 is a hybrid dx9/10 and apparently can be flashed/upgraded/patched for dx10 and could possibly support crysob

The other thing to consider is that Microsoft are hoping this game is going to help drive Vista sales. They were pimping it at E3 for Vista, so they're going to want to say that Vista is the best gaming platform ever (though that of course is going to conflict with the X360 guys, but hey!)

Myself anf the son have been giving the xbox360 demo of Dead Rising a bash, heh George Ramero would be impressed even though there is a big disclaimer at the begginning of the demo ect..

Pretty sick fun choppin up zombies but what you gonna do when they are all trying to eat your brain. :)

Oh and gears of War is another I am waiting to have a go of as well. Having said that, I do love my uber PC but I have to hand it to the MS boys, the 360 does do some snappy s*** that's for sure. I am sure there will be a lot of jaw dropping stuff to come.

dead rising is going to make the xbox the biggest console on the market atm. It is out in america but I only have something awfuls commentry (the forum not the take the piss front page) to go on and they all loved it. I have the demo on my 360 and its bloody awesome. I have thrashed all the demo weapons to death and there are no stroy missions so I cant really play it anymore but it was easily the most replayed by me demo ever. God damn what a fun game. cant wait for the full game to FINALLY come out. f***ing region codes, I thought they dropped that s*** ages ago.

yeah i dont think ive slawed up a demo so much since worms 2 demo came out in the mid to late 90's.

600 and something zombies is my max in the 15mins. i just love it how something so simple lets you be so creative, and the fact its all about killing massloads of zombies just makes it even better.

yeah, I don't get all the anti console stuff in these threads. Consoles have a ton of awesome exclusive games and different games that will never make it to pc. All the great games from japanese studios, really unique stuff.

I used to think consoles were lame and had nothing pc's couldn't offer..

Oh and dont forget Star Wars Lego 2 out of Sept 15th as well...my 6yr old is so excited about this one, he loves them, they are very cool to play.

Yeah I relunctantly put down my first pre-order for anything last week for dead rising, it's gonna be sweet. Fight Night 3 kicks arse too, if I can get a good game like either of those every 2 to 3 months I'll be a happy chappy, I'm not looking forward to gears of war that much but if it gets good reviews I may pick it up.
