First episode tonight @ 11:10PM
28.07.2006 on ABC TV

This week tune in for: You Am I, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Hack on pill testing, stress levels at Splendour, Death Cab For Cutie (Like A Version), Angus &Julia Stone and DJ Promo's world record breaking DJ set.
9:00am Saturday 29.07.2006 on ABC TV

Rosie counts down the 20 most requested 20 video clips from Super Request! It's time to say 'see ya later' to The Pussycat Dolls and 'hello' to likes of Hot Chip, The Hilltop Hoods, Lily Allen, Matisyahu and dozens of others.
11:30pm Saturday 29.07.2006 on ABC TV

A one hour concert performance by one of Australia’s favourite rock bands, You Am I, filmed by jtv at The Mint - Sydney's Hyde Park Barracks.
9.00pm Tuesday 1.08.2006 on ABC2

This week we replay highlights from jtv, plus more: Robbie's interview with Ben Elton, Strange Attractors, music vids, Noise Profile (Eugenia Lim), Hello Future, 4 Minute Wonders (Fizard), Death Cab For Cutie in-studio performance and a new segment called 'My Clip Pick'- this week with Caroline Tran.
I really hope this show is as good as JJJ is for radio... it would be awesome to have a decent music show on TV to compete with all that video hits and spin-off s***. In true JJJ awesomeness you can also download episodes off their website for portable video players... ie. video ipods.

edit: JTV website can be found here: http://www.abc.net.au/jtv

I second the triple gay = s*** notion.

And I'd rather hear khe san a few times a day than back-to-back unrecognisable and talentless garage bands.

Couldn't have said it any better, though I cry a little every time it happens.

New garage bands? twat, give me another station where I might hear some genuine quality older music that isn't the favourite of every drunken hick on karaoke at the Vic

haha, JJJ might not be all fanstastic, but what other station even comes close?

Commercial radio stations are just a f***ing lot of ads, interspersed with bogans yacking about the latest Big Brother episode and a little bit of music JJJ played a year ago.

and a little bit of music JJJ played a year ago.
So one in a hundred JJJ songs don't suck and a few of that small percentage get picked up and playd to death on the commercial channels, what a great station.

I agree with your ads and bb sentiments though.
though I cry a little every time it happens.
So what you are saying is only emos listen to JJJ?

JJJ is the tits

If theyre playing something that isnt to your taste you tune out and go about your business. Fact is theres only about 1 in every 5 songs on triple J that I dont like in some way.

Just cos you havent heard it before doesnt make it s***, it becomes s*** when Nova/MMM/B105 pick it up and flog it 15 times in a day until you cant stand it

I find it funny when I flick over to nova or one of the other commercial channels when triplej is playing something I realy cant stand (not that often but a few times day compared to constantly on the other channels) and I end up going back to triplej because the others are either playing ads, talking some s*** or playing a song that is actualy worse than the triple j song.

Also, I find i funny that butterfingers and hilltops hoods are played all the time on nova now.

JJJ is good if you're actually just listening to music but no good when ur exercising/cleaning ur room/getting ready for a night out and u need some kind of a beat...guess it just depends on why ur listening to the music to begin with!

Also, Coldplay is awesome!! U just have to be in the right mood to listen to it.

My thoughts exactly but I'm lazy so I guess I'll be missing this weeks XL episode.

Also triple j rocked when they were just on the radio and now that they're on TV that just makes them so much better. Bring on more jtv!

If you listen to commercial radio, I regret to inform you that your opinion about Triple J is utterly worthless. Their goals are totally different to Triple J - they exist for one reason, to make money by playing commercial populist garbage and spread its evil tentacles across the minds of youth. On the rare occasion when I change radio stations it is usually to hear some "new rock" that was playing on the Js months and months ago.

Lots of people don't like Triple J because of a lot of the talking segments. Some of these might not be interesting if you don't like the artist (or whoever) that they're interviewing, but it's not a reason to write off the whole station. Lots of the talking segments (especially Hack) are really awesome - they have great journos who ask interesting questions that are more relevant to you than the massmarket rubbish that you'll get on TV and commercial radio.

big fan of Hack - it's a little "youth oriented" but it visits a lot of issues you wouldn't hear about in the more mainstream media

pfft. 4jjj are only a teeeny little bit less commercial than all the rest of the rubbish radio stations. they all play mostly alt-rock... 4jjj plays 'slightly more alt than the other couple of stations' rock. rarely do any of them play 'new music' outside of thier tiny rock-derived playlists.

wtf
how is it commercial? it doesn't advertise anything, except for upcoming tours and events, which is useful information. Aside from that, not a single product or service is advertised. How does that make it a teeny bit less commercial?

triple j play a huge variety of genres, not just rock. And as for new music, they have a brand new feature album every week that gets extensive play, as well as playing other new albums AS THEY COME OUT, not waiting til they are released as singles.

In closing, I don't think you've ever actually listened to jjj in your entire life.

they play commercial music from major labels. they also advertise for record lables... who isn't listening!? a huge variety of genres? i've never heard any denmark death metal or underground drum'n'bass or dark ambient electronica or... the list goes on. i do hear a f***load of 'new' alt rock... but just coz some noob has just twanged it out hardly qualifies it as 'new music' if it sounds the bloody same as twangy alt rock has been sounding like since the late 80s.
maybe i am old & bitter (actaully, definitely) & maybe 4jjj has changed in the last few years because i haven't listened to it in the last few years.. but i used to listen to 4jjj nearly all day long when i was in telstra & it is from that i have formed my opinions.

Obes: nah i just wanna heap s*** on something... it's monday, stuff sucks. ;D

i used to love the j's back in the day (90's), but i cannot listen to them anymore

totally painful presenters (morning crew, wtf!@?!?!?)
totally terrible playlists, i used to love the fresh beats on JJJ, now its all s*** guitar noise (call me old, i cant stand it)

just too painful to listen to

nova (funny presenters, decent beats) > jjj

it's a good thing there are enough stations to please everyone

jjj for alternative slightly less commercial music, nova for complete bogans etc

i do find myself annoyed at the s***e that makes it to the 100 every year (such as most songs on the wolfmother album) that are just as commercial as anything played on the other stations, but what can you do it's a poll

yeah, the JJJ top 100 sucks. They advertise so hard when its on that they get alot of people that dont normally listen to JJJ. (lots of teeny-boppers) so its a very different list with alot more 'popular' music to what might be the primary music day to day on the Js, though obviously they have played all those songs at some time during the year.

PS: What the f*** is 4JJJ?

How could you not like the morning guys (J and the Doctor) - that is by far the funniest s*** I've ever heard on the radio. It also helps that the guys are actually talented musicians unlike any other radio presenter I've ever heard (they can pick out what chords guitarists are playing by ear etc).

Jtv is awesome - really cool to see the faces of the radio presenters - people who actually have personality, again something very rare on the radio (or tv).

In conclusion, what trog said.

correct me if I'm wrong (but don't be a dick about it) but it's never been 4JJJ

it was 2JJJ in the period of being an FM station within Sydney only

All I heard was blah blah blah.

Ive only listened to triple j a total of like 3 times in my existance, and for never more than 5 mins.

In one of those 5 min sessions they did put me onto neon blonde though.

hahah, demon. Well, I think you WERE trying to sound knowledgable, as it never has, nor is it currently referred to as that. Not sure what makes you think they'd refer to it as 4JJJ when the same program is broardcasted through-out the entire of Australia.

If you wanted to be a twat like me, you would have referred to it as something like 3JZ.

Have you listened to Full Metal Racket on Tuesday nights with Andrew Haug? They have a two hour segment every week (which I tune out of because I don't like metal that heavy).

Electronica stuff might be on soundlab on Sunday nights. I also don't listen to that.

Basically, they're that awesome that they have dedicated shows that you can listen to if you like certain types of music. They're on late at night so they don't clash with the usual radio stuff that you'd like to hear (ie, general melange of stuff). You can stream their programs to see what they have, too.

casa , it doesn't matter what anyone wants to call a radio station, the callsign & frequency are dictated by the australian communications & media authority. if you follow my link in my previous post you will see it is referred to as 4jjj by the acma.

i had a look at the playlists yesterday after i read reloads post... i was surprised by some of the bands on the playlist... but the majority were what i expected... middle of the road popular american nu metal. s*** like 'disturbed'
that has to be the fukn lamest excuse for metal ever... i mean, what sort of self-respecting metal band calls themself 'disturbed'? what's next? 'upset'? 'slightly peturbed'? lame.
The groove train was also as expected... mainstream house & boring mor breaks. just the popular stuff... nothing too weird or experimental.
Sound lab... ok. there is some very cool stuff here... I GUESS IT'S NOT ALL BAD FUKN DAMNITS!@#! :D
