Its on and all confirmed, we've organised for Park Rd to be closed from midnight to 6am for the game.. La Dolce Vita and Arriverdercis Pizza are organising all the s***..

2 massive screens, 1 up near LDV's end and one down near arriverdercis. Including the big screens at dolce and arriverdercis.

DJ and all that will be there along with radio station(s) doing breakfast shows from park rd (unconfirmed yet) and tv crews will be setting up aswell.

20,000 expected.. there is a bit in the sunday mail about it on the 5th or 6th page. First in gets the seats n s*** at dolce (im sure its the same at arriverdercis).. but its all good coz as i mentioned earlier there are 2 mass screens on the road. I suggest BYO chair maybe ? .. no alcohol.

Huge event.. whos coming?

I was thinking of going to Southbank to watch the game but Park Road sounds good. The only downside is there won't be much parking for the amount of people heading in the watch the game at Park Road.

I am trying to find a hotel in Kaiserslautern so I can go there for the night but it seems to be f***ing packed out already. Doh. Lucky its an early game so I can prolly jet down there for the day and back to Berlin or something for the night.

f*** its awesome being over here and being able to do this. Did I mention that already?

Berlin is pumped, especially after the German game yesterday. Mad f***ing Germans were running amok everywhere, it was awesome. They have maaaaaaaassive fanfest areas set up in the city so it will be awesome to even be here for the Australia game.

What a great first half 0-0 but that ball has seen both strike boxes alot of times already.
Italy seem to have a more decisive attack behind them though, it's going to be rough on Australia to pull out a win here.

Well what can you say? the better team showing better defense, better attack and postional flair and acuracy won the game.
But for the Aussies to lose from a diddled in the ass decsion from the ref was exactly what the commentator said "A cruel way to lose".

The boys did well to get as far as they did and put up such a strong fight against a truly top class team. However losing that way is so so sad :(, especially when the decision has been seriously questioned. I wold much rather us loose in a penalty shootout or something.

boo, what a lame way to finish such an awesome run. Everyone at the fanfest was veeeeeery disappointed with that last ref call. We played soooo well and I think we would have had them under the hammer in extra time.

Mad props to the aussies though for representing so far through. It is still a masssssssive f***ing achievement. Even to lose to a team like Italy only 1-0 is a pretty fair effort given how much international competition our team has had. Bring on the next world cup!!"§§§$$!"

I felt gutted... wanted to cry...

This could very well be the defining moment on me giving up on the "Beautiful" game.

When a crap descion from a ref can put a country out of the world cup.. then is it really worth putting the effort in. I guess the argument is, Australia should not have put themselves in the postion to be penalised, but should not the Italians show better sportmanship?

I guess they can console themselves with "At least we made the quater finals" but at what cost to their honor I ask?

I agree with above, would had preferred to have lost 5 - 0

Rant.... complete

Cry more d'fish. The penalty was given for inhibiting the offense (making a tackle whilst not going for the ball), and it was correctly given. In saying that, it WAS soft, don't get me wrong, especially for that critical part of the game, but it was still definately a foul. And we all know what a foul in the box means.

What is also funny, was being at an english bar in town, with about 2k people in it, every single one of those people was going for australia, cept yourself and these 2 random chicks, every single one of them stormed out of the bar and started kicking over wheeelie bins, and knocking over street signs and s***..... I would love to bet about fifty f***ing bux that ninety percent of those f***ers couldn't even tell you the name of the Australian goal keeper who didn't save it; let alone the wog c*** who scored the goal.

Also, before you s*** on me, I sung the australian anthem at the start of the match loudest of them all.

I feel so sorry for Lucas Neill. Easily Australia's best player of the World Cup, he doesn't deserve to cop that bulls***.

At least we all know. The italians know. They were lucky and not deserving.

All I can say is bad luck to Lucas Neill. What a way to finish an otherwise impeccable tournament. The guy was utterly gutted as he walked off, I'm pretty sure I saw him cry.

Have to agree with Casa, I'm not sure it was a spot kick but challenges like that frequently result penalties and we shouldn't have been in that position. 30 minutes with an extra man and nothing to show for it... Boo Darrel.

Total BS, the Italian attacker didn't even follow the ball, kicks it to the right of the player takes a big step back to the left to "trip and fall" after Neill had fully come to a stop. Just one more situation that would have been totally corrected with a 5 sec look with a 2nd video ref. It works well for other sports, why not start utilising the available technology on controversial calls that cost teams so badly.

If you can't step over/around a stationary person lying on the ground theres no way you should be playing any kind of sport... If Neill had've still been sliding when the Italian pansy made contact - yeah fair enough then have your spot kick.

As I have said in other threads its pansy ass f***** diving to win matches that makes me dislike soccer more and more every time it happens. :/

Federal Court Ruling from the Melbourne Age, Australia (AP)

A seven year old boy was at the centre of a courtroom drama yesterday
when he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of him.

The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents and the judge
initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with the child custody
law and regulations requiring that family unity be maintained to the
degree possible.

The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him
more than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her.

When the judge suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy
cried out that they also beat him.

After considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning
that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the
judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who
should have custody of him.

After two recesses to check legal references and confer with child
welfare officials, the judge granted temporary custody to the Socceroos,
whom the boy firmly believes are not capable of
beating anyone.

the sunrise crew have made me feel a bit better, they totally agreed with the injustice of it all and put together an awesome montage of the italians stacking it during the match to the soundtrack of "free falling".

the replay from behind grosso's back showed the bulls*** in its truest form, clear as day and no argument. so to the italians that recognise the fact that the aussies got done over, good on you, you got lucky with the call have fun and celebrate; but to the supporters that think the italians played the far superior game and won fair and square - morte in un fuoco

if we would have got past italy, i have no doubt we would have drilled ukraine. its f***ing depressing.

i had a top night at park road though, prime position right in front of the big screen with my crew. keep your eye out for me on the news.

^Thats what saddens me the most about Aussie sports fans.^

At least try to enjoy the game and not just jump on board because the team is doing well.
Last world cup was awesome fun to watch even when we didn't go anywhere much at all.

I personally don't follow any specific team but just enjoy the game itself, sure diving is annoying and frustrating sometimes as I showed with my own comments but I still think the game is very exciting rather than the slow march up the field, tackle by tackle most football comprises of in this country.

Unfortunately this kind of thinking from Aussies that when a sport is hard we give up because we aren't winning is going to keep us down in the world cup for a long time yet :/

Pity Australia couldn't finish off the match. Made props to Italies defence. It was rock solid the whole match. Australia's attack just seemed predictable and 1 dimensional. There were no surprises and anything Australia tried was for the most part easily shut down. I thought Italy were always dangerous on the counter. 1 bad ref decision cost the match really, but then again 11 vs 10, Australia had their chances...which were wasted time and time again. So the ref got it wrong....there you go, it happens. It should have been academic by then any way.

italy defended well, we had more posession but we just couldnt finish.

italy's scrambling defence and constant pushing up kept our attackers at bay and we couldnt play with any flow.

our defence (specially lucas neil) was insane compared to the games against japan and croatia, where we seemed to get caught wrong footed all the time

mad props to italy for winning, tough call on the last penalty, but as has been said, they kept us out with a man down :/

that being said, bigger props goes to austraila, though i hope this isnt a case of we fired too soon too quickly, i hope we can go further in 2010.

To whoever said stop being bitter:

People generally don't mind losing if it's a genuine loss. If Italy scored quality goals we wouldn't be complaining. Much like the Brazil game - can't really complain about those goals.

This was literally the WORST possible way to lose, in every aspect.

Yeh I got so excited for the Rugby world cup two years ago even though I don't really like the sport. That's part of the reason sport is so awesome - has the power to stir such large groups of people.

Australia should hold their head high - played beautifully and proved that we are a serious contender, and not an "underdog".

No he isnt. If Italy lost due to a controversial penalty, then he would be a dead man walking. Too many australians hoping off at the next bandwagon stop to cry in the public toilets and cut their ex girlfriend of 2 weeks name into their arms, to him to be dead.

The thing is, I never ever gloat. I hate it when going to drongos games, and we lose, and f***ing a******s from down south think they're kings and gloat like a pack of wankers. It sucks. The only reason I am gloating to you fagots is because you're all f***ing cry baby sore-losers.

All in all we played alot better than italy, offensivly.

Italy defended very well with only 10 men, but at the cost of one less striker i do believe. Australia had alot of opportunitys we should have converted but so did Italy. We had more possession and more more attacking. The game shoudl have gone into extra time or penalty shootout.

The final penatly goal kick decision was wrong, but so was the red card decision against italy. It was only a yellow card incident. The ref made 2 crucial bad decisions it seems.

All in all we outplayed Italy, but at the end of the day, they still won. (thanks to the ref).

God, how surprising, Australian's being sore losers. Admit it, Aussies are better at every sport in the world. Except football.

Every single soccer player that has ever taken a dive lost the game - and I am sure multiple australians on multiple occasions have done it just like virtually all players in soccer.

They are victims of their own f*****ry. If no one took dives in soccer then australia wouldnt have lost. Get over it or push to somehow get dives the f*** out of soccer before it degenerates further.

For those who are still whinging like a fake diver, think of it this way:

Italy will lose sooner or later, Australia have already won just for making it there.

"Thank you Booyah for your counselling and moral support"

Say it.

You should be hoping against hope that Aus doesnt verse Italy in the early stages of the next world cup. There will be no mercy.

And if you didnt notice lol... Aus is starting to pwn nubs at soccer also.

Next world cup we go through asia which is given 4.5 places in the finals. So if we are one of the top 4 teams in asia (highly likely) we go through. If we are 5th we play off against the 4 placed team of concacaf which consists of usa mehico costa rica etc.

The only team that gets automatic entry to the 2010 world cup is south africa.

But theres plenty of football to keep me entertained till then with the asian cup qualifiers , new a-league season and the asian cup next year.

Now that everyone can fall off the bandwagon because australia is out of the world cup, start following the rugby. The competition looks alot more even for a strong and less predictable world cup in 2007.

PLUS, Australia is looking to make strong form when the team gets a bit more settled. - best form since eddie took over anyway :P (f***en eddie)

what f***s it for aus is the fact all of our top player play in europe. to get them together regularly in the 4 years between world cups just wont happen. clubs dont release players and why should they when they fork out millions for them. the a league is still a bit juvenile, but at least they got rid of the serbian and croatian only teams.

italys experience showed through this morning, they like the south american teams really know how to take a fall and play the ref for a fool. but you can imagine what it is like in countries like brazil and argentina, uruguay etc, where soccer is the only sport anyone cares about. when they lose the country really does go into national mourning like when aus made it past uruguay. at least here we have league, union, cricket, afl to tide us over until the next chance.

at least this time we are qualifying in the region we should have always been qualifying in, 4 spots from asia, one would think we should easy make it through.

I reckon A League will gradually pick up over time, especially now so hot after the world cup. It is just a question of whether it can go the distance between bandwagon events like the WC and keep peoples attentions for that time. If it does then we will hopefully be able to start breeding some good generations of Aussie players that can compete on the the world stage (unless we just keep importing third rate internationals for our teams, which would be lame)

Italy played with poor form towards the very end.
there was on moment where an italy player clearly pushed one of our guys in the back when the ball was up in the air (f***ed if I remember which players it was now).
Basically, anything to stop shots on goal, even if it meant getting blatant penalties, and then of course, actually taking a homof*** dive to get one for themselves.

Rubba is right, if you look at the way he falls, it's a blatant shrapse-gif style dive.
Nobody is that unco-ordinated or dysfunctional, you can see he puts no effort in stepping over Neil nor trying to regain his balance, a normal f***ing person would, a twat trying to get a penalty and taking a dive wouldn't.

I like soccer but I reckon the dives ruin the game and it's Ghey.
The game in it's current state is more "you got in my way so I couldn' shoot on goal boofknhoo I think i'll fall over and get a penalty".

And League is just a retarded bogan brainless skilless sport

Neill (who played like a champ btw/we couldn't have got as far without him) put himself in a position where he made it easy for the player to dive and 'win' a penalty. So I don't really fault the Italian that much, he took the opportunity that was presented to him so they could win the game. I do however think A) the rules suck in this case and more needs to be done to get rid of diving and B) blame Totti because he is the world's biggest wanker.

Top ten football dives: http://observer.guardian.co.uk/osm/story/0,6903,1072648,00.html

1: Roberto Rojas
Brazil v Chile, World Cup qualifier, 3 September 1989

Overrun and intimidated, Chile needed a way out. The plan: force an abandonment and a replay in a neutral venue. The execution: on 69 minutes, goalkeeper Rojas threw himself into the smoke of a firecracker, which had landed nearby, pulled a razor blade from his glove and stabbed himself in the head. The result: lots of blood, a mass brawl, a walkout, an abandonment - but, after video evidence, no replay. Instead, Brazil were awarded the game, Chile were out of one World Cup and excluded from the next, Rojas was banned for life and the woman who threw the firecracker was signed up by Playboy Brazil. In May 2001, Fifa lifted the ban. 'At 43, I'm unlikely to play again,' said Rojas, now coach at São Paulo, 'but at least this pardon will cleanse my soul.'

We were beaten.. lets get over it. I am over it and was over it 5 mins after the penalty.

Our world cup was Uruguay.. we have done so well.. so lets be happy about that.

You lot complaining have to remember that these big teams have been thru worse s*** than us (ref calls) in the past... we have for the first time hit the big time and we got beaten by a borderline ref call which could have gone either way.

The replay shows that lucas neill went in for the ball - he did NOT touch the ball therefore he was deemed interfering with the player.. if neill touched the ball then it would have NOT been a penalty because he was 'going' for the ball. If you interfere with a player which neill did you will be penalised as what happened. All the hype is because of when it happened (in the last possible play of normal time) in a knockout game. Unlucky for us .. we have to cop it sweet.

Yes we agree that the italian player did put a bit of hollywood into the fall.. but thats football. It has always been like that and will always be like that.. maybe until Video ref is introduced.

They won we lost thats it.. Looking foward to Asian cup.

My biggest gripe is the term "win/won a penalty" which is often said by the commentators.

you shouldn't ever be able to win a penatly, you receive a penalty when fouled no ifs buts or exceptions. The word win is totally incorrect for the word penalty.

In that context it describes exactly what the players are doing, deliberately faking contact to "steal a penalty"...

IMO they should crackdown on dives and suspend the losers who persist in doing it, but thats never going to happen so my respect levels for soccer will continue going down.

Most of the controversial calls are going towards and in favor of the big teams. Like this mornings match with ghana vs brazil. Adriano's goal was clearly offside yet the d******* ref let it count anyway.

I call conspiracy.

I just checked the scores and came across this which I found very relevant to this thread...

Ghana's Asamoah Gyan was given a red card by the referee for diving, his second yellow card of the match. The red card was the 25th of the tournament, a World Cup record.

Its a world record and its only bloody second round... hopefully that might set off some alarm bells.

Yeah it's a lot of cards, but the vast majority of the games are in the group stage so it's not like we're only half way through. Is it something like 56 games gone, 8 to go?

australians are just noobs when it comes to diving. once they get some drama clases & some international diving skills they could be in with a chance to win the world cup!
Nor pretend to be an expert on every single subject on earth by posting in said threads like this twat does.

demon knows where its at; don't blame the italian's because they are exploiting a flaw in the game. If the refs are too s*** to pick up on it, then so be it. If he had kept on running over niel and missed the goal, he probably would be kicking himself, not because he missed, but because he could of milked a penalty.
