Does anyone know how the f*** to disable this thing so I can browse my Ixus 60 like its a USB drive?

On the PC I first plugged it into (no drivers installed or anything) it just recognised it as a USB drive. I copied some datafiles onto it which I now want to get off. But the PC I'm plugging it into now recognises it as a Canon Digital IXUS 60 and loads that stupid assface newb interface which isn't letting me browse the full contents of the SD card and won't even let me copy files TO the camera!@#

I've done some googling and it seems some cameras have an option when you right-click-properties them to disable it but this one doesn't. I'm wondering if there's some option that you need to flick off somewhere else?

some cameras get treated as a memory card while others get classified as a camera

eg. my panasonic camera would get recognised as a 1gb flash disk while my friends sony camera would get recognised as a camera ... annoying, couldnt find a way to disable it

It's so f***ing annoying. It worked perfectly at home and on blahnana's laptop in Japan, but two other PC's I've tried since both pick it up as a magic canon device instead of a usb drive. Googling reveals heaps of people having the exact opposite problem - they just get usb removable drive instead of the wizard!

There must be some newb option that you can disable in explorer or something that both blah and I have done by default but these other pcs don't have it enabled.

its xp SP2 so I think its all up to date.

I've tried dicking with the Removable Storage Service and the Windows Imaging Service - the latter had some effect; it made all the images show up as .bmp files instead of .jpg files, but still didn't do anything useful like let me browse it as a drive.

If I thought I'd have this much f***ing trouble I would have just bought a card reader, but this is my last opportunity near a PC for a while so I really need to get it going now. f***it!

Tried removing absolutely everything related to the camera in Device Manager? Unplug the camera, make sure all disconnected devices are visible (MS article here), then go wild removing greyed out devices (particularly Removable Drives). Get rid of it all there and Windows should pick up the camera from scratch.

That or just buy them el-cheapo multi-memory cards reader and just rip out your SD card from your camera and do it that way.

Found an article about a dude with the reverse problem (Wizard doesn't show up) and to fix it he added these registry entries in;

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\WIA.AutoplayDropHandler.1\shell]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\WIA.AutoplayDropHandler.1\shell\open]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\WIA.AutoplayDropHandler.1\shell\open\DropTarget]
"Clsid"="{F1ABE2B5-C073-4dba-B6EB-FD7A5111DD8F}"

So I'd say mangle them up / delete them and see what happens :)
