Normally I watch CSI but Noooooooooooooo yet again CSI is not showing because of channels 9's stupid 'specials' that they have.

'The Great Escape' is on. Oh Rubbish. It wasnt an escape it was a rescue. However I am sure millions of australians will tune in to watch these 'heroes' and their 'escape' story.

Me? Eurovision song contest it is. Eat that channel 9, even though you don't care.

Based on a true story, a group of allied escape artist type prisoners of war are all put in an 'escape proof' camp. Their leader decides to try to take out several hundred all at once. The first half of the film is played for comedy as the prisoners mostly outwit their jailers to dig the escape tunnel. The second half is high adventure as they use boats and trains and planes to get out of occupied Europe.

Err how is it a rescue when they are ESCAPING from the camp?
not having a go at ya here just dont see how its a rescue

I believe they are refering to the miners.

A special two-hour presentation hosted by Tracy Grimshaw. The Great Escape will see Todd Russell and Brant Webb talk for the first time of their remarkable two week underground ordeal.

i would have to agree with kat on this one...being trapped in a mine doesnt make you a heroe. unlucky maybe, or maybe even lucky for surviving it...ritch ofcourse cause all the n00bs will pay to here how your "story" and because of worker compo..but Heroes? i think not.

I find it somewhat strange that when CSI, the show you want to watch, isnt on instead you substite it with something else that is on TV that you dont really want to watch anyway. While it is fair that it is your choice, I notice this kind of trend among many people.
It is a similar pattern to drug use, having drug A until it is unavailable to substitute with a 'lower grade' drug.

They sat there... while others RESCUED THEM. If both of the men had given up hope, chances are they would still be alive because they sat there.

edit: I actually agree with Kathleen, the media is known for making sheep droppings into piles of cow dung. I remember watching some show a while ago, this was when the miners were still traped and one of the channels (9 I think) had one of those special things where they disrupt the normal program. This wasnt a problem, I was just expect updates like "miners resuced" or something major that has happend. But this news flash was about getting food to the miners, around 5 minutes of these retarded reports talking about how the resucers just got food to the miners. This may have been ground breaking news, but annoyed me is that you could clearly see them trying to stretch everything out and saying how everyone is cheering and all this crap. Finially after it finished, instead of bringing on the program they showed the ads...
It gets worse, the show was interrupted again, this time nothing new has happend, they just felt like interrupting it again, BECUASE GETTING FOOD TO THE MINERS WAS SO GROUND BREAKING OMG THAT YOU HAVE TO INTERRUPT THE SHOW TWICE TO TELL EVERYONE ABOUT IT. Or how they interrupt a show to tell you that the miners wont be freed in the next two days, but maybe next week sometimes...

I dont mind when I hear this on the news, because hey its news and I know to avoid free to air news because it sucks the son of my penis (apart from SBS but thats getting bad aswell) but it s***s me as if I have been raped several times while in prison that channels do this.

Damn you media, damn you.

Every television here was tuned to the Eurovision contest.
Happy (spoiler fixed for Kat) won, so sick of all the crap that usually comes from this contest. The papers here are having a ball with it as well :)

This whole miner ordeal was so average... at the same time, there was those 3 islander blokes, on a little tinny in horrible weather conditions for 3 weeks eating raw squid and shellfish... now that's amazing :D

07:30 pm SPECIAL - EUROVISION SONG CONTEST 2006 - Final
Viewed by over 100 million people in 37 countries, the Eurovision Song Contest is the world's largest and most watched song festival. It has been screening every year since 1956 in most European countries and holds the record for the longest running program on television. The Eurovision Song Contest is much more than just a song contest, it has become a cult event. This year, the Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Athens and will be hosted by US actress Maria Menounos, (who played the role of Eva in From Russia With Love) alongside Greek celebrity, Sakis Rouvas, one of Greece's most successful artists. A total of 38 countries have confirmed their participation in this year's contest. According to the format, 14 countries have secured their place in the Final, including last year's winner (Greece), the four largest countries in the contest (France, Germany, Spain and the UK), as well as the nine top scoring countries from the previous year's competition. These countries are: Croatia, Denmark, Israel, Latvia, Malta, Moldova, Norway, Romania, Switzerland. (From Greece, in English) CC WS

Because you're incredibly stupid, I'll say it again.

Stuff giving the ones who survived anything.
Give it to the poor bastard's family who died and the town which is now fstuffed because it relied on the mine.

If you give the town something you'll have to give the survivors money as well. They'll be outta jobs too.
