I updated to SP2, installed Xbox Media Connect, got it to find my Xbox 360, shared my music folder, and allowed it access.
I went to run the connection test on my 360, and it failed to recognise my computer. I opened all the necessary ports in my router, I enabled uPnP, and then I tried again. Still nothing. However now, when I run the test, I get an error pop up on my computer saying that the IP address is conflicting with another one on the network. My 360 ip is 192.168.1.101, and as far as I'm aware (I f***ing forget how to check this, but from memory), my computer IP is 192.168.1.100 - I haven't changed anything, so what the hell? Anyway, does anyone have any experience with this, and wanna weigh in on what the f*** is wrong with this? Thanks |

Xbox Media Connect works on XP? I thought it was just a Media Centre thingy :/
anyways.. sounds like you need to play around with your network settings @home. tried setting static IPs for everything @home? |

So just set 192.168.1.100 as the static for my PC, and 192.168.1.101 as the static for my 360?
Sorry I'm a bit of a networking noob heh |

Ya, you might need a gateway too

Start -> Run -> cmd
Then type ipconfig Thats how you check your ip on your PC phar, will also tell you your gateway (which is your router's IP im guessing in this case) |

That's s***ty then, because my ip is .100, and my xbox is .101... Yet when I go to the Xbox and get it to search for the connection, on my PC a warning flashes up saying theres a conflict of IP address.
That and, on my PC, Windows Media Connect can see my Xbox and it says it's all fine, yet my Xbox can't see my PC. f***ing hell they've made it difficult. |

I doubt they've made it difficult, it's just a bit much to expect things to be able to handle every single networking situation/configuration you throw at them.
For you to diagnose this you'll need to be able to carefully go through each device and establish what interfaces they have that are connected into your network either physically or wirelessly, and what ip addresses and subnet masks are assigned to those interfaces - as well as what hosts are running dhcp servers if any, and what addresses they are attempting to assign, that way you can make sure everything has a unique address on subnets that can talk to each other, else be able to talk via a router. You *shouldn't* need to open ports on your router for two hosts behind it to be able to talk either unless your router is also doubling as a switch and is applying filtering to addresses behind it. |

If its an insecure wireless connection, maybe someone else is on your network?
Make sure your router is secure! and WEP isnt secure!! |

I thought they had made it difficult in that you need to run Windows Media Center not XP. So most people are running Media Center as a GSX virtual machine, which avoids having to meet the difficult media center hardware requirements, and the vm only needs half a gig of ram to run in.
A mate set it up last weekend, and using transcode can now stream xvids to his 360 from his laptop. |

ive been using mce 2005 (with hdtv) and streaming over wireless (54G Xbox360 adaptor cost me fuken $160 microshaft bastards) to another room with a projector (1080i) perfectly, was a bitch to setup at first but works great, ps anyone thats got mce2005 try VLC360 for divx streaming.
As for your problem Pharcyde sounds like firewall issue try runing DMZ and point out ip of your machine, also try seting up a class a subnet in dhcp server use range 10.0.0.2 to 10.0.0.255 with netmask of 255.255.255.0 last edited by 0z at 18:40:28 28/Apr/06 |
