Moving a Win2K/NT nightmare over to 2003 Active Directory Before I jump in an start breaking things left right an centre, anyone have any hints that they'd care to pass on which would help me sidestep some of the inevitable pitfalls that remain undocumented ? Mucho appreciated |

I recently made the jump here. I got 2 new 2k03 servers and joined them to the domain, set them as AD servers, waited for full replications then set one of the two new servers as "global catalogue", and the other as "operations masters".
I removed the old win2k servers from being AD servers and set it to win2k03 native modes. I actually had a lot more messing around than that as I had to do exchange2003 as well, but that was the basics of it. I would suggest running up a VMWare server and restore backups of your servers to vmware virtual machines on it and do a test run first off the network. |

As to Exchange... /me looks at 5.5 box an swears Least that is going to be handled by Oracle Collaboration Suite PS: "Scarface" is happily cruising and eating approx 20 goldish in a single sitting (sitting = ~2 mins) :/ Man that critter can eat =) last edited by HERMITech at 16:59:37 26/Apr/06 |

Hey how does vmware go with restoring backups? What backup software are you using?
Im trying to do the same with Virtual Server 2005 but havent had much luck lately. My backups are on tape , and trying to do a bare metal recovery but since the tape drives are scsi, and are just emulated via Virtual Server, its hard to get them to be bootable to do the disaster recovery restoration? + using TApeware which is the dodgiest backup proggy ever :( dont have 10g's for Veritas :( |

Sorry dude, using Veritas. No exporure to VS 2005 your using
Arggh This thing is s***ting me No matter what I do it keeps throwing up errors after I migrate a test account ERR2:7435 SID History cannot be updated for Activedir. This operation requires the TcpipClientSupport registry key to be set on . Changes to the TcpipClientSupport registry key require a restart to take effect. rc=6. This is setup on the source domain controller What version of the ADMT are/did you use? All the doco I can find is for Version 2 not Version 3.. (typical - which has all the cool new features which make migration a "simple" task) |
