Topic: VLC keeps crashing, ntdll.dll

Has anyone else had a problem using video lan to watch dvds? It seems to work just fine on my stargate dvds, and any other dvd I've tried to watch with it but the other day I got gilmore girls (don't say it) and it just crashes when I try to watch them, and another dvd I rented from the video store doesn't seem to want to play either. VLC crashed with an event in event viewer that ntdll.dll had something to do with it, but media player classic can play stargate, gilmore girls and the dvd from the video store just fine without crashing. I've tried the lastest stable and even the latest beta version of VLC, still crashes. Is there some new whacky copy protection that's come out recently that's screwing with my ability to watch stuff or is my computer just hosed?

dvd drive is just how it came from the store, set to region4 hasn't been haxed to be region free btw.

Using 360VLC on mce2005 box to stream divx to my 360 seems fine on that no ntdll.dll crashing sounds like a odd error indeed VLC was made for macs but its been ported over to the pc, you though of using other steaming software? also try riping the DVD's to harddrive with DVD Decryptor (only if you legaly own the copy) and see if it does it.

I tried taking out any region coding & what not & storing the dvd on the hard drive & yes it still crashes on gilmore girls, but stargate is just fine. I'd say it's just some whack thing on these dvds. I'm not streaming the dvd's I'm just playing them on my PC because it's my music/tv/dvd thing, tv? what's that? :)

and yes, I legally own gilmore girls dvds, but if you meet me in real life I'll deny it :p

edit: I tried it on my laptop using VLC and it didn't do anything too strange so I'd say my PC is just hosed, oh well media player classic can still play them. I just like VLC because I can turn up the brightness, for some reason dvds are really dark on this pc.

You find that cleaver dvd makers are doing wacky structure with the VOB files id say de-mux them to MPEG2/AC3 (Mpeg2 files) and try it that way, pain in the arse but prob fix your problems, and gilmore girls is a good perv sif be shamed on that (the yummy mum i mean btw)

nah I'd say it's something more to do with this computer. I mean it's my main computer I install/uninstall s*** from it all the time. Like I said, it seems to work on my laptop. Plus VLC crashes mainly on the menu, if I bypass the menu and go straight to the movie it seems to be a little more stable, though it does still crash occasionally. However there is probably 1 main difference between this PC and my laptop in that I actually have dvd playing software on the laptop, windvd I think, and on this pc there isn't any commercial dvd software, just media player classic and VLC. So that might have something to do with it.

Oh well my computer is set up in such a way that a format isn't much of a pain so I'll just format... again.

and yes, I think the gg dvds have some odd protection on them, R.C.E. that apparently does some voodoo on the menus, which may explain why vlc crashes more on the menu than on the main movie. However I still find it odd it only does it on this PC and not the laptop as they're both the same specs almost and same OS (from different install cd's though).

Your monitor needs servicing. Had a similar thing occur to me once on an old monitor and didn't really notice it until a photochop I did on that machine was given to a mate and it was blatantly obvious then

As to VLC, are you certain it's not an audio codec that's giving you grief? Try reinstalling your audio drivers (or updating) followed by DirectX
At least give that a shot before you format dude =)

I got gilmore girls

Where did you get gilmore girls from? my gf has been hunting these fabled dvds for a long time.

Last time she made me check for her, i found that they hadn't been released in australia yet.

if you can't wait and have a credit card amazon.com has all the seasons. But you can get s1&2 from just about anywhere, ezydvd, bigw, I'm guessing jb-hifi.

brand new monitor, and even on my old monitor some videos were dark, some were bright.
