Who actually writes those stupid jokes that get posted on here. Cos some of them are really random and take like 3 random thoughts connected together, anyone know anything about the origins of jokes thanks

I've written some of my own material, never posted em on QGL tho. I have rewritten a lot for people as they don't fit a particular situation/locale. It's always a buzz to get something you create/recreate sent back to you up to some 12 months later from people, especially when it's a distant family member who forwards it on to you thinking that you would never have heard it before heh

so hermitech, how do you go about writing them

like do you go, ok, got a bishop a paster and an imam in a boat together then think of something funny, or in your daily travels do you think of something amusing about a few types of people the join it together

You think of the conceptual punchline first, then write the set-up in a way that gets people in the right frame of mind to lay the punchline on them.

I'd say you don't just randomly think up a joke, you have to either be talking or reading about a topic that gets you to connect two ideas together. At first it might just be a gag in the conversation, which as a male you should have the ability to do, but then you think about it and can form it into a proper joke.

Usually its just a funny situation that occurs in real life or as Idol said, a gag that props up in a conversation where you refine it a bit more and make it slighty more humourous and understandable to the wider public. Generally, the more taboo a subject the easier it is to make funny as on a deep level, people like to laugh at what troubles them the most as a form of stress relief

There's an awesome short science fiction story by Isaac Asimov called "jokester" where this scientist uses Multivac, the world's largest computer, to try and work out where jokes/humour comes from, when he realised that nobody ever knows where they come from originally.

Anyway, at the end of the story, the computer figures out that all jokes are put into our brains from an extra-terrestrial source, as a means to study our psychology and the human condition ect. The catch is, that as soon as he figured it out, humour became meaningless as a way to study us and got taken away. Nobody ever laughed again :(

awesome story though...
