One of the best movies I have seen in a while. Thoughtful, challenging, violent. Americans will hate it.

I saw it at a preview screening last weekend, it was ok, I'd give it maybe 3 stars, entertaining but generally there isn't much new there unless you haven't seen 1984 or Brazil

Yeah, I saw it opening night - best movie I've seen since Batman Begins. I'm hard pressed to not give it 10/10, so we'll just settle for 9.

I thought it was awesome as well.

I heard somewhere that they're making a sequel - I really hope it was an April's fools joke. You can't make a sequel about that!

lol obes is going senile in his old age.

I enjoyed the movie, much less action than I thought it would have (since the adds toted it as the next matrix) but I found the strategic use of action and a focus on the development of the story through dialogue more enjoyable.

Pretty refreshing overall. Shame they cut natalies hair :(

1812 Overture - much love. Great, great movie. Definitely one for my tiny tiny DVD collection (because I only buy movies I really like).

yeah awesome movie. I thought some of the really dramatic moments with the classical music busting out were really good.

I thought it was great

Someone told me the ending was kinda corny, and now that I think of it, it probably was. Still loved it tho.

Saw it a few nights ago in a Kiwi cinema - loved it!
1812 Overture - much love.
I loved the old jazz standard 'Cry Me A River' that played twice on the jukebox...beautiful.

Great movie :)

Remember, Remember, The 5th of November. Gunpowder, Treason and Plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder, treason
Should ever be forgot...

My thoughts exactly.. Did drag on a bit but that was the style of movie. I wouldn't mind some more of those great choreographed fight scenes and effects.

Pretty awesome too considering the original release date for this movie in the US was going to be November 5. Catchiest line ever :D
Too bad they had to delay it :(

My boss and I were having a bit of a discussion about this movie today. He's a big fan of the original cartoons, so of course he liked it. However, me and him clearly see differently on whether we consider V to be a hero or villian. As my boss put it, "He kills people, blows things up, holds people hostage" - but as I see it, yeah, but he's fighting for a good cause.

Its ironic that Tchaikovsky, who composed the 1812 overture, was a homosexual! I'm sure that irony was not lost on the movies creators ;)

Also, top movie. I just wonder if Hugo Weaving did anything more than they voice and that scene when he had a beard, ie a stunt man behind the mask - would make sense really.

Have you considered the anti-hero?

well i wanted to find out weather in the 16th century someone tried to blow up parliment..well as it turns out someone did and the line V says is acctually from that time..here is the full version according to Click here

Remember, remember the fifth of November,
gunpowder, treason and plot,
I see no reason why gunpowder treason
should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes,
'twas his intent
to blow up the King and the Parliament.
Three score barrels of powder below,
Poor old England to overthrow:
By God's providence he was catch'd
With a dark lantern and burning match.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, make the bells ring.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King!
Hip hip hoorah!

(traditionally the following verses were also sung, but they have fallen out of favour because of their content)

A penny loaf to feed the Pope.
A farthing o' cheese to choke him.
A pint of beer to rinse it down.
A f***** of sticks to burn him.
Burn him in a tub of tar.
Burn him like a blazing star.
Burn his body from his head.
Then we'll say ol' Pope is dead.
Hip hip hoorah!
Hip hip hoorah!

Caught this yesterday...

Surprisingly good! 9/10

Definately one of the most cerebral comic book adaptions.

Good to see they finally gave Natalie her job back.

Havnt you ever heard of Guy Fawkes Night? - I guess it might have died out by now but when I was younger, maybe 10 years ago I remember there being fireworks every year on that date.

Not celebrated in Australia. But in the UK I used to love it. Also when I lived in Africa it was celebrated. Nothing like getting your man dressed up to burn :P

Australia tends to celebrate American things more than anything. I wouldn't be surprised if barely anyone knew who Guy Fawkes was or why he is famous.

Anyway, excellent movie. Anyone who is a fan of 1984 and such movies will like it :)

I heard a few linguists cream their pants in the opening scene too :D

It's hard to celebrate a celebration that requires fireworks when you can't buy them. It used to be celebrated.
