Hi y'all,
My mate and I are wanting to start up a incubus/funk etc cover band (with some originals) but we need a bass guitarist. I've been playing drums for about six years now and have been in 2 bands and my mate has been playing guitar for 3 1/2 years and has won awards in his last band. We're lookin for a bass guitarist whose into incubus and similar music and can play decently (preferrably with band experience), so if anyone knows anyone whose 18-20 looking for part time band (we're studying atm) give us a yell! |

my mate has been playing guitar for 3 1/2 years and has one awards in his last band. win v. won, (wn) win·ning, wins v. intr. To achieve victory or finish first in a competition. To achieve success in an effort or venture: struggled to overcome the handicap and finally won please learn basic english |

its gonna be hard to find a bass player that you dont know to play in your band if you dont realy have a goal. Saying that you are an incubus/funk cover band doesnt realy give you many places to go.
That kind of band is ok to play in with mates, just to have fun, but if you are going to get someone you dont know you have to have some sort of musical goal. You cant be a cover band and an originals band, well not at the same time. They are completely different kettles of fish (why is a fish in a kettle anyway?). If you are in a cover band you have to learn heaps of songs at least 40-60 to start with, most of them you may not like but have to play becuase they are cover band standards (If i have to play "paul kelly - to her door again im gonna kill someone). If you are in an originals band, then your probably only going to have 7-10 songs to start with and play them until you know them inside out. Figure out what you want to do with the band, and then try and find a bass player. |

I don't entirely agree with Viper about not being able to do covers and originals. Covers can bring in the bread that you use to keep up your original stuff. Lots of money in covers, especially if you are a small band and half decent. Once you get about 50 songs together you don't really have to learn much more very regularly. In about 3 years of playing covers I hardly learned any new songs, but I mostly sold myself on being a 90's rock cover band.
Anyhoo, the only reason I'm really posting here is to share the song I recorded yesterday after having written it a few years ago. Sorry that it is in iTunes format, the .wav was ~50meg. This file is 3.1meg. http://trog.qgl.org/up/03%20Survive.m4a |

Ok, i probably didnt word that correctly, What I meant to say is that cover bands usualy dont do original songs. Saying that, In my band 2 of the 4 of us play in other original bands (guitarist plays in the brisbane metal band "preference" for any metal heads out there, and I play in the hard to put in words band the "ok cowboys") just not the same original band. The other 2 have at times played in original bands.
What is was trying to get at is if you are after a bass player or any musician you realy need to have some sort of goal, otherwise no one is going to take you seriously. Whats the name of you band billy ? I play in chester, you may have heard of us. |
